He was a UCLA pre-med student the day he fell in love with the setar and left college to pursue Persian music, the instrument, and the Persian music masters that would together turn him into an accomplished musician, a gifted composer, and a passionate teacher. Today, Kourosh Taghavi not only composes and performs beautiful music with his musical ensemble Namaad, he teaches and trains many musicians in California. I went to see Kourosh during one of his monthly trips to Berkeley, where he teaches several students. I would like to share my talk with this remarkable man with you. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, don’t miss the upcoming performance of Setar Ensemble’s Shahrâshoob Concert on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Santa Clara University Recital Hall (Tickets). Support Kourosh and his students and their passion to keep traditional Persian music alive and thriving among our youth. (Concert Photos By Neda Motamedi)
