Looking for the “Benghazi” in Iran?!

No matter what you call the developments in Libya (revolution, rebellion, western supported dissent, foreign intervention), it is going to have a ramification going forward. Security council resolution:

“Authorizes Member States that have notified the Secretary-General, acting nationally or through regional organizations or arrangements, and acting in cooperation with the Secretary-General, to take all necessary measures, notwithstanding paragraph 9 of resolution 1970 (2011), to protect civilians and civilian populated areas under threat of attack in the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, including Benghazi, while excluding a foreign occupation force of any form on any part of Libyan territory, and requests the Member States concerned to inform the Secretary-General immediately of the measures they take pursuant to the authorization conferred by this paragraph which shall be immediately reported to the Security Council”

perhaps for the first time allows member states to enter an internal conflict/ civil war to protect civilians from the attack by their own government. This is a development that deserves close attention by friends and foes of the Iranian people alike. In the light of what has been inspired in Libya and the enormity of loss of life and destruction those in pursuit of democracy in Iran have to remain alert of the consequences of such developments. Clearly west and European governments in particular are going to get their hands on Libyan oil at any cost specially if the cost is born by Libyan people!

It won’t be a far fetched idea to assume West may be willing to repeat its newly found and seemingly successful strategy in Iran. In that case they have to look for the Iranian “Benghazi”! In a post “Libyan experiment” world one has to carefully follow up with any developments in Iran’s border regions. Azerbaijan because of its history and ethnic composition is particularly important in that regard.

P.S. This blog intends to highlight a single concept and is more like of a hunch than anything else. It is not meant to advocate or oppose any strategy or accuse anyone or group. The writer is singularly devoted to Iran’s well being, its civilians protection and progress.
