Iran says 90 died in road accidents in 3 days

ran’s state radio says at least 90 people have died in road accidents around the country in the past three days.

Friday’s report comes as Iranians have been flocking to the countryside to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the holiday that follows the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. In Iran, the holiday started on Wednesday while in many other parts of the Muslim world it began on Tuesday.

Iran has one of the worst road safety records in the world. Statistics say that about 26,000 people lose their lives in road accidents every year in the country.

The high death toll is blamed on unsafe vehicles, disregard for traffic rules and inadequate emergency services.
