Whistling with joy

And that’s why I have to go back
to so many places in the future,
there to find myself
and constantly examine myself
with no witness but the moon
and then whistle with joy,
ambling over rocks and clods of earth,
with no task but to live,
with no family but the road.
— Pablo Neruda

I waited and waited and I finally did it. I bought my ticket to South America yesterday: Washington DC to Santiago, Chile. It turned out incredibly cheap too: $352 one way. It seemed like pure luck because every other price I saw online was at least double (and even that would have been worth it).

It’s been a dream of mine to go to South America. It’s still a dream. I have no firm idea what the region looks like. It was only yesterday when I actually saw Santiago on the map. Not a big deal. These days you don’t need much information in your head about anywhere you want to go. Just google it and get up and go. As long as I have a room with internet access, I’m all set. I will go on CraigsList in the coming days and find a place. I saw an ad there a few days ago for a room in a central location for around $300 a month.

It’s the way to live my friends. Have a job that allows you to work on your computer and you’ll be free to be anywhere in the world. Can you do it? Why not? Do it! What are you waiting for? Leave your desk, get out of the office, get off the highway… see the world before it sees you off 🙂
