Iran’s Team Melli is in group A with South Korea, Uzbekistan, Qatar and Lebanon. Group B is comprised of Japan, Australia, Iraq, Jordan and Oman. The top two teams in each group will automatically qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. The third place teams will play each other and the winner will then play a South American team to qualify for the tournament.
Iran will open against Uzbekistan on June 3rd, followed by Qatar on June 12th. The games against Uzbekistan will be critical for Iran.
Here is what Iran’s coach Carlos Queiroz said after the draw.
“The most important thing for us is that we start preparing now for the Final Round because this group has serious candidates for qualification and we cannot afford to relax. We will compete in all games with dignity and to do this there is only one way and that is to prepare well because preparation is the one thing that is completely in our control.”
