Mindless Science

Not all scientists are pretending to be mindless zombies. Some of the greatest scientists of all time, particularly the founders of the Quantum Theory, thought that consciousness was the fundamental reality of the universe, it’s very intelligence, and “matter”, as existing separately from consciousness, an illusion:

“A physicist is just an atom’s way of looking at itself” –Niels Bohr

“It is wrong to think that the task of physics is to find out how Nature is. Physics concerns what we say about Nature” – Niels Bohr.

“Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real” – Niels Bohr

“I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness. We cannot get behind consciousness. Everything that we talk about, everything that we regard as existing, postulates consciousness”.

“Behind the existence of all matter is a conscious and intelligent mind” – Max Plank.

“Science cannot solve the ultimate mystery of nature. And that is because, in the last analysis, we ourselves are part of nature and therefore part of the mystery that we are trying to solve” – Max Plank.

One of the founding figures of the Quantum Theory, Erwin Schrodinger, an avid Advaitin, wrote: …….”The world is given to me only once, not one existing and one perceived. Subject and object are only one. The barrier between them cannot be said to have broken down as a result of recent experience in the physical sciences, for this barrier does not exist”

“A physicist is just an atom’s way of looking at itself” – Niels Bohr

The delicious irony is that words like “consciousness,” “conscience” and “science” are closely etymologically related. They share the Latin root “scire,” to know, be aware. So it seems that even the English language which, by the way, is unaware is making more sense than the scientists who are disavowing the very consciousness which testifies to the “objective” existence of their precious atoms and strings and is the very basis for the existence of science itself. Today, everyone is running around worrying about which country is next going to acquire nuclear weapons, but it all began when some extremely clever men decided to do something exceedingly unintelligent, from an evolutionary perspective, just because it could be done. If only wisdom was a product of smashing atoms together, then we’d know how to wield the tremendous powers of nature wisely. However, at the moment we have the powers of Zeus to go with the moral and spiritual level of a donkey loaded with books (filled with equations)…

The entire thing remind me of rumi when he says:

Intelligence is the shadow of objective Truth.

How can the shadow vie with sunshine?…..

Also you may want to take a look at the:

The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock ” By T.S Eliot which is the frustration of him towards war.

“In looking at Prufrock, one can see a great deal of textual evidence that Eliot was using the very concepts of modern physics as psychological metaphors in the construction of this poem, such as singularities and the uncertainty principle, in some cases before their popular conceptions became well-known.
