“We need to understand that there are a whole lot of other people in Iran that we need to be dealing with, and have a much more sophisticated and expansive relationship [with], and that’s the kind of relationship we can really only generate with Iranian Americans,” said Congressman Jim Moran at NIAC’s 2011 Leadership Conference. “We need to hear from you.” Iranian Americans “should be the source of our most accurate information on what is going on in Iran”, continued Moran. For three days, from September 30, 2012 to October 2, 2012, Iranian Americans will have the opportunity to meet with and hear from key decision-makers and opinion leaders about issues important to the Iranian-American community, including U.S./Iran relations from a Washington insider’s perspective, the risk of war in the current political climate, and learning how the Jewish-American and other communities have successfully organized and advocated for their rights.
Registration for NIAC’s 2012 Leadership Conference is now open.
World-renowned political theorist and author Noam Chomsky, Author and former Newsweek journalist Maziar Bahari and Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Thomas Pickering are just a few of the many distinguished guests who will be joining us.
The conference agenda includes a variety of activities, including panel discussions, interactive workshops, keynote speakers, tours of the Capitol, meetings with Representatives and fun receptions and dinners. The goal is three-fold: 1. Help NIAC members understand the policy-making process and the politics behind it all. 2. Train NIAC members so they can be active and engaged in American civic life. 3. Provide members with information about issues important to the Iranian-American community, including U.S./Iran relations and the threat of war.
This is our chance to show our strength in numbers on Capitol Hill.
