In recent years, a conspiracy theory has emerged that the British secretly backed Ayatollah Khomeini in overthrowing the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in 1979. One aspect of this theory is a claim that Khomeini was part British, being a son of Haji Williamson. However, there is no conclusive evidence (e.g. DNA evidence) to prove such a claim.
