BBC Persian

The BBC Persian Television, which in Persian is spelled, تلویزیون فارسی بی‌بی‌سی‎ is the BBC’s Persian language television news channel. The channel targets Persian (Farsi) speaking people living in Iran, Afghanistan and others countries. The station, based in the United Kingdom, is funded by several donors, including the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) which is the BBC’s largest donor.

Despite being censored in Iran, the BBC Persian channel is said to reach an estimated audience of over 18 million people per week.

The channel broadcasts for 8 hours daily, offering a variety of programming including news, entertainment, documentaries, culture, science, business and the arts. However, due to censorship and the ban on foreign reporters able to work in Iran, BBC Persian has increasingly depended on user-generated content, often recorded with smart phones.

In addition to broadcasting, BBC Persian has an online news site, and can be found on social media, including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and telegram.
