Multilingual singer/songwriter Sarah Khatami has a new video to share off of her debut self-titled EP. “This Time” is the first of the EP’s five tracks, with Khatami choosing to introduce her record with a song about misbegotten love, a topic which slots in perfectly with the vibe and tone of her music.
A love that is not misbegotten is the one Khatami’s expresses for the ukulele, an instrument which has accompanied many an inspired cover on her Soundcloud page, in both English and Farsi. Here it joins multiple instruments, presenting a breezy but pleading ballad; she seems to be attempting to convince herself that, “This time, it’s different, it’s you.” Sounds optimistic, sure, but something about her tone—as well as that of the video itself—makes me think it’s decidedly doubtful, with maybe a shred of hope.
Sarah Khatami’s EP released in early January, and is her professional debut after countless performances surrounding her time at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a full scholarship and encountered collaborators galore (she’s set to graduate next year). The singer is also scheduled to perform in Valencia, Spain later this month, on the 26th at Bocalinda and at Upper Club on March 21st.
