Progressives Sound Off On Rep. Ilhan Omar For Calling Assad’s Rule A ‘Repressive Dictatorship’

As one of the most progressive members of Congress, especially on issues of foreign policy, freshman Representative Omar more than raised a few eyebrows yesterday when she Tweeted the following:

Why it matters: As one of the first two Muslim-American women ever elected to Congress, Omar earned widespread praise among progressives for her willingness to take on the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), and more broadly the influence of money on congressional support for the Israeli government. So it came as a major disappointment and surprise to many who viewed Omar’s Tweet as nothing more than pandering to the mainstream media narrative of Syrian President Assad and Syrian war which the US has fueled for years.

Now one wonders if before long Omar will advocate regime change in Iran/Venezuela in the name of ‘peace loving people’ and a ‘more just and free government.’ To be continued…
