US Tells UN It Stands ‘Ready to Engage Without Preconditions’ in Negotiations With Iran – Reports

US Ambassador Kelly Craft wrote a letter to the UNSC on Wednesday, saying that the United States stands “ready to engage without preconditions in serious negotiations with Iran,” media reported.
The United States stands “ready to engage without preconditions in serious negotiations with Iran, with the goal of preventing further endangerment of international peace and security or escalation by the Iranian regime,” the envoy of the United States to the United Nations said, according to Reuters.

The ambassador also said in the letter to the United Nations Security Council that the killing of Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani on Friday was justified under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The envoy added that “the United States is prepared to take additional actions in the region as necessary to continue to protect US personnel and interests.”
Iran launched rockets at two US-Iraqi airbases on Wednesday to retaliate against Iran’s top general Qasem Soleimani’s killing, the attacks caused no human casualties, according to Washington. US President Donald Trump, speaking after the rocket launches, said the United States will never allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons but was still prepared to make peace with Tehran if its leadership “changed its behaviour”, indicating there would be no immediate US escalation of the conflict.
