Congratulations to Iranian director Seyyed Moslem Tabatabai, whose animation ‘Light Sight’ won the Best Student Film Award at the 9th Wimbledon International Short Film Festival in London.
The 3D short work tells the tale of an imprisoned character named M.E. who is fascinated by a hanging light in his room. M.E. repeatedly tries to reach the light but there are obstacles in the way.
The Wimbledon International Short Film Festival showcases new and innovative work in film and video ranging from 10 seconds to 14 minutes 59 seconds long. Other winners included, ‘The Full Story’ by Daisy Jacobs (England), named best film, and ‘Xamarim’ by Kelen Balint Rafael (Hungary) which took home the festival’s best animation award.
Earlier this year ‘Light Sight’ won the best animation award at the 12th edition of Dieciminuti Film Festival in Italy, as well as the award of excellence at the 14th Accolade Global Film Competition (AGFC) in LaJolla, California.
The AGFC jury noted that Tabatabai’s film is “a profoundly simple yet poignant treatise on consciousness, reality, control, anger, surrender and rebirth – engaging and moving.”
