ANSA) – Rome, December 28 – Italy on Monday urged an end to the “spiral of violence” mounting in Iran which has reportedly left 15 people dead and scores of others injured, the foreign ministry said on Monday.
Foreign Minister Franco Frattini issued a statement Monday in which he reiterated Italy’s “firm condemnation for the violent repression which has led to tragic deaths, the injury and arrest of many demonstrators”.
At the same time he appealed to Iranian authorities to “as soon as possible bring an end to a spiral of violence and create a framework for the full respect of the Iranian people’s civil and political rights”.
Frattini’s remarks coincided with a condemnation of the violence in Iran by the Swedish EU presidency.
