Human rights groups condemn juvenile offender execution in Iran

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch on Tuesday condemned the execution in Iran of juvenile offender Behnoud Shojaee, who was hanged on Sunday.

Amnesty International called the execution “a gross violation of international law”, noting that Iran is party to two treaties, which prohibit the execution of those under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged offense.

Human Rights Watch described the execution as “a callous affront to basic human dignity.”
