The province of Sistan and Baluchestan, in south-east corner of Iran with a population of almost three million mostly Sunnis, has been coping with challenges of reduced rainfalls and onset of droughts for the past two decades.
Why It Matters: These challenges are compounded with the unilateral shifts and changes in the direction of Hirman river from the Afghani side, and the gradual drying up of Hamon wetlands, thus creating an extensive crisis effecting the economic lives of people in the region.
At the moment this area has become one of the epicenters for dust clouds in Iran.
