The cartoon produced in postcard form was designed against communal washing pools in public baths. These were identified as a source of disease and there was an effort underway to educate the public in order to improve hygiene and combat disease. Eventrually these were closed and priavte rooms made available. Soon after Reza Shah was removed from power one of acts to restore ‘traditional’ values was to open up these communal pools (Kasravi, ‘Sarvnevesht e Iran che khahad shod‘ or What will become of Iran).
