During the eleven years since I moved out of Iran, I have learned many things about life, the world, and even Iran. One of the most interesting things I have learned living in California has been the origins and rituals of Iranians’ ancient Mehregan celebration. Think about it. I lived in Iran for the first 18 years of my life, and I had never heard about Mehregan! To make matters a bit more embarrassing, I am from Kerman, a city with a large Zoroastrian population among whom Mehregan is observed and celebrated annually! Why had I never heard about this Persian celebration before? When I saw Iranican’s report on Mehregan all of that changed. I realized I wasn’t the only Iranian who didn’t know about Mehregan before emigrating to US.
