Iranian celebrities are fed up with America’s sanctions and obsession with hurting ordinary Iranians. Spearheaded by Oscar-winning film director Asghar Farhadi and Grammy winner Kayhan Kalhor, a cast of Iranian celebrities have launched a petition condemning US sanctions on Iran and warning of the impact on ordinary people.
“Once again, the United States has imposed sanctions against Iran… Every Iranian will personally pay the price,” reads the petition, named “Voices Against Sanctions” and posted on change.org on Thursday.
Secondary US sanctions were reimposed on Monday following the decision by US President Donald Trump to pull out of the 2015 nuclear deal earlier this year.
“Politicians will come and go, but the fallout from their disastrous decisions will be a nightmare for generations to come,” said the petition, which as of the publishing of this post was approaching 12,000 signatures.
The petition was signed by Iranian filmmakers, musicians, activists and lawyers.
Farhadi has received two Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, while musician Kalhor, a virtuoso on the kamancheh (spiked fiddle), won a Grammy in 2017.

Once again, the United States has imposed sanctions against Iran. Such measures have never brought to the people of Iran what politicians proclaim they will: human rights, freedom, and a better life. Every Iranian will personally pay the price for these sanctions.
بار دیگر تحریم‌های دولت امریکا علیه ایران آغاز شد؛ اما خام‌اندیشانه است بپنداریم که نتیجه‌ی اعمال این تحریم‌ها دستیابی به حقوق شهروندی و حقوق بشر، بهره‌مندی از مواهب آزادی و بهبود شرایط زندگی برای ملت ایران است. ملت ایران، تنها تاوان این تحریم‌ها را خواهد داد.
