A senior Hamas delegation today attended the inauguration of the International Conference for Islamic Unity in Tehran, Hamas sources and agencies reported.
More than 300 officials from 60 countries will attend the opening of the conference, which is named “Jerusalem is the pivot of unity of the ummah”.
Members of Hamas’ political bureau Mahmoud Al-Zahar (pictured above) and Salah Al-Bardaweel, have travelled to Tehran for the event.
During a speech in the inaugural session of the conference, Head of Hamas’ political bureau Ismail Haniyeh delivered a speech video link.
He called for the formation of a “strong and strategic alliance to face all the challenges facing the Palestinian cause,” stressing that “resistance is the current strategy for the movement.”
Tehran organises this conference annually to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and invites scholars, officials, factional leaders and muftis from Iran and abroad to attend.
