No kids, you can't take the flower pots home

A class of children started a project to make 'Flower Pots' to
take home as a Mother's Day gift. They wanted to put a plant in
it that was easy to take care of, so the teacher decided to use
cactus. The children were given green-ware pottery shaped like
a clown which they painted with glaze and had professionally fired
at a class outing so they could see the process. It was great fun.
They planted the cactus seeds in the pots and they grew nicely,
but, strangely enough, the children were not allowed to take them
home. The cactus plants were removed and replaced by a small ivy,
at which point the children were allowed to take them home. The
teacher said cactus seemed like a good idea at the time, but.....
SO - why were the children not allowed to take the cactus home....???? Sent
