Where is the Third World?

I was teaching at the Sorbonne in 1990. One day at the end of a class session a Norwegian Ph.D. student asked me a question: "Professor, you come from the Third World. Where exactly is the Third World?" Only a few minutes had remained to the end of the class. I gave him a spontaneous reply and ever since then I have come to believe in the truth of that reply more and more every day. I said to that student: "The Third World is a place where if you want to help and make your homeland thrive and progress your personal life and livelihood will be destroyed and if you want to enjoy a good personal life and livelihood then you must help in the destruction of your homeland." -- Professor Mohammad Hossein
