The Iranian
From "Popular Paintings
and the Persian Legend", a booklet published in the late
1970s for a Paris exhibition of coffee-house (qahveh-khaaneh)
paintings in Tehran that started appearing in the early 19th
century.
The exhibition was for Maison de l'Iran in Paris
by Groupe 7/Animation. It was organized with the help of Iranian
painters M. M. Assar and Zarrine-Afsar as advisors, Mr. Fouroughi
as architect, and Mr. Naderzadeh, cultural attache of the Iranian
Embassy in Paris.
The paintings were from
the collection of Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian. Thanks to
Zara Houshmand for providing the book.
