Without the same
By Jam Hamidi

The Iranian
"I don't wanna be
born on the thirteenth
without a mother or home
I don't want dark hair
cold meals, cold nights
dark eyes, dark days
I don't wanna be
surrounded by gays
laughing it out loud
Everyone better than me
safe, happy, fun
inviting me over
I don't wanna be
hassled by the man
from the Master Card
My bills piling up
evicted, arrested, mopped up
nothing left but pride
Not who you thought I was,
all of you: my family,
I'm finally strong."
Why can't I remember
a single smile on her face?
What purpose had her life
in pain?
