* Jendeh with an agenda

After a third installment by this prolific writer ["Hamid"] it's not really clear what we have on our hands. Do we have an aspiring short story writer or do we have someone writing true stories based on her own life experiences?

Let's take up the first possibility. Any serious writer out there will agree that Nooneh's 'short stories' are indeed short-short of anything even REMOTELY resembling good writing. I do not object to including provacative material in Iranian.com, but this is point-blank trash, no matter how you look at it.

There is a way in which a good story from a good writer can incorporate a bit of sexuality and be done in a tasteful, classy manner. But talking about "landing on erections" and "fucking X's brain's out..." is not it.

Let's move on to the second possibility. It seems more likely that these "short stories" are nothing but clippings from Nooneh's diary and in fact reflect real events in her life. If that's the case, then first off I'm not sure why they need to be posted in a forum like this; and secondly it seems highly unusual and suspicious why an Iranian girl would go to such lengths to publically and freely talk about her promiscuous sex life.

She claims that it helps her "heal and understand". How? In what way does talking about your sex life in an open, public forum help one heal and understand? I don't know of many American girls who would do this, much less Iranian girls. It sounds like the author has a voracious appetite for sex and this extends to include voyeurism (note the sex on the balcony in daylight bit).

I suggest to Nooneh that she get an agent and compile her life experiences into a movie: "Nooneh Does New York". Or no, better yet, run for office. You campaign slogan could be "Vote for Me: A Jendeh with an Agenda."

* Insightful winner

How pleasant to see an Iranian win the lotto and get a step forward in the rat race ["I hit it big"]. Even more pleasant is to see an Iranian win money -- and be so open and insightful, as opposed to secretive and coy.

Most Iranians are extremely protective of declaring their worth, with the exception of the L.A. crowd (you know the crowd I am refering to... the let-me-shove-my-Porsche-up-your-nose crowd). But that's another story.

And even more impressive is the winners honesty and frankness ("money won't buy happiness, but it makes it bloody easier")!

Finally, it seems we may be finally able to stick our chests out and say "I am an Iranian and I am doing very well, and I will talk about it"!

This should be a lesson for a certain founder of Ebay, who still claims to be French. Pierre, are you reading this? Even Andre Agassi admits he is Iranian , proving that image isn't eveything...not all the time anyway.

So the fact that Bijan didn't hide behind any misconceptions is a true blessing. Bijan, spend a few pennies while thinking of us!

Good luck!

* Guys, shape up

Azadeh,

You are truly correct in asking "What do Iranian men have to offer an Iranian girl?" Seriously guys, why should we pick you over any other nationatily just because you are Iranian?

Iranian men have become lazy, thinking that some Iranian girl would stumble across them and gladly become his wife. It used to be where one would be shunned by her family if she married outside of her culture, but it's slowly changing, and the guys are angry because it means they have some competition and need to shape up.

So guys, stop whining if a girl finds someone whose not Iranian. Shape up, and you might be in the running again.

* Where are the Romans

Dear Ashgar Shah, ["Asghar, the liberator"]

You may have some good points, but overall your argument is as ridiculous as your name. True... Absolute power and life long control without term limits will lead to dictatorship, but at this point, what difference does it make who is to blame for the lost Persian Empire?

Perhaps the fact that there is still a country called Iran, even though instead of a superpower it is merely a ghost of it's past - a poor third world country- but nevertheless we are still here. Where are the Romans and the Aztecs and other Super Empires of the past?

My Dear Asghar Agha,

you can't change the mistakes of the past, but let's face the truth about the present. We are not getting any stronger, wealthier or for that fact territorially larger with the Mullahs at the helm. The monarchists and shahhanshaees might have not been the answer, but without a doubt Jomhourie Islami is losing Iran in every aspect faster than thier predecessors did in the past 3,000 years.

You may refer to Kouroush as a murderer, but history will look back at our present rulers as one of the most "bee-orzeh", bee-leeyaaghat" and "aadam-kosh" in the long history of our country.

* Evil One's horoscope

Dear Mitra Faalfir,

I am glad to see you are quoting scriptures from God's word. Yet, you must understand that we cannot believe bits and pieces of the Bible in order to fit our lifestyle. The Bible is the true, inerrant word of God. Everything in the Bible is true. And yes, Satan does exist, because the Bible says so. All the channeled "positive energy" in the world cannot make him go away. The only way to experience victory over the darkness is through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit...You should not be surprised at my saying, You must be born again." John 3:5,7

My friend, the world tells us that horoscopes, palm reading, psychic hotlines are just for fun, just silly games. But they are not. They are ways in which the Evil One directs people away from the Lord. When someone calls a psychic, they are looking for meaning in life, for answers, yet they are searching in the wrong place, the wrong direction. Jesus is the only one with the answers to life. He alone gives us purpose and meaning.

And when you look up into the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars -- all the heavenly array -- do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping the things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven. Deuteronomy 4:19

And I will set my face against a person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself by following them and I will cut him off from his people. Leviticus 20:6

We are to worship the creator and look to him for answers. He made the heavens and earth, but they do not in any way make up who we are. God made us uniquely and wonderfully, as Psalm 139 says.

Please know I am telling you this in love, wanting you to be at peace with Jesus Christ, getting this abomination out of your life.
