 U.S. Special Forces assigned to guard Afghan President Hamid Karzai try to secure the area after an assasination attempt on Karzai Thursday Sept. 5, 2002 in Kandahar. Karzai survived the assassination attempt when an Afghan security guard fired at his car as it was leaving the governor's mansion here, witnesses said.
