You're beside yourself with pride in the success of the Iranian football team. You go out of your house and join the thousands of men and women celebrating in the streets, and eventually find yourself at the gates of Azadi Stadium along with the rest of the crowd, waiting to get in and welcome the team back home. As you are entering the gates suddenly the gaurd stops you and says, "Hey! Where are YOU going? Women are not allowed in here." In your daze you look at the clothes you are wearing. Yes... the unmistakable Islamic cover, the big scarf on your head; yes, he's right, you ARE a woman.
But you cannot just turn back and go home. Something inside you is too proud of Iran victory to accept even a personal defeat. You push your way into the gates and as you do, you gain momentum; since there are others, dressed like you, also pushing. And before you know it, you're in.
You and other women have made it into the stadium hoping to continue with your business of welcoming YOUR team. But then, you are directed to sit in a separate section. In a stadium of 100,000, there are only 5000 of your kind, separately contained. You may be there, but those who directed you to your seat give you strange looks! And so do some in the neighboring stands. Is it that you're welcoming the team differently than them? You think about how you're going to push your way into the closed doors of their minds...
Well, anyway, all of this somehow diminishes your joy. You realize that none of YOUR kind has any part in running this show, like the rest of the country's affairs.
