Anyone have any information on when Persia became Iran? How was this formalized and globally recognized? Mersi.

It has always been Iran as its residents were calling it. Europeans always called this land Persia, Persie etc. until mid 1700 that some of them mentioned Iran as well. For more info refer to this article

I do not believe that it was ever a formal or sentinel moment when it was passed into law. Rather in 1935 the Shah of Iran, Reza Shah Pahlavi, asked foreign diplomats to begin using the terms; which they did and as result, he unilaterally managed to have the world refer to our land as Iran instead of Persia.
