* So much we like to cover up

Good going. [Demonstration, Los Angeles style] I liked your piece about the demonstrations in LA: it was crisp, to the point.

As for the dress-up and use of cosmetics mentioned in your piece -- it is all an apt metaphor for so much that we like to cover up, which honestly are imperfections in our own twisted minds.

* Site for gay Muslims

Dear Abjeez, [My Allah guide my gay son]

I just read the letter sent by the concerned mother of a Muslim queer man. Although I personally am not affiliated with Al-Fatiha, I think this organization may be an appropriate resource for this questioning man and his parents. On their webpage, members introduce their organization as a foundation that "is dedicated to Muslims who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning, those exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity, and their allies, families and friends."

Since Al-Fatiha members insist on their Muslim identity and do not see their religious beliefs as being in contradiction with their sexuality, I think they may be able to help this mother understand or come in terms with his son's sexuality.

From attending one of their confernces, I know that Al-Fatiha members are practicing Muslims, some of whom have reached the title of "Imam." Through re-interpreting Quran, Al-Fatiha has tried to reach out to Muslim-identified queers and their families.

* Don't hurt him

I just wanted to write to the lady who has found out her son is gay! [My Allah guide my gay son] How can this be the hardest test Allah has given her so far? It is not the worse thing that could happen! I lost my 15 year old daughter in an accident 2 and a half years ago. I would give anything to have her back. I didn't even mind if she were gay or what ever she wanted to do with her life.

I really wish that parents could see how precious their children are. Don't let a tragic accident make you understand how much they mean to you. God gives you your children only for a short time, then they are adults and have to make decisions and mistakes to get through life like we had to.

Remember it is only Allah who can judge and Allah who forgives. Love your son DV as much as you can. he needs you more than ever now. Be his friend and let him have someone he can talk to and express how he feels. Don't take his life away just because he is gay. He has a right to life like any other human on this planet. This is not a mothers worse nightmare...Believe me!!! I think the worse nightmare is seeing your own beautiful child laid to rest in her grave...It's a nightmare you never wake from...

SO PLEASE DV... LOVE HIM... DON'T HURT HIM... DON'T LET HIM HAVE TO TAKE HIS OWN LIFE... YOU WOULD NEVER FORGIVE YOURSELF... BE THE MOTHER YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE... A MOTHERS LOVE SHOULD ALWAYS BE UNCONDITIONAL... YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE RAISING A BEAUTIFUL SON... IT IS NOT THE BIGGEST SIN...SO GO ON AND HUG HIM... LET HIM KNOW HOW MUCH YOU CARE ABOUT HIM... DON'T THROW HIM AWAY FROM YOUR LIFE... FROM ONE MOTHER TO ANOTHER.

* I wish my mother was as reasonable

I have read your article on iranian.com where you responded to a woman who was very distraught over her gay son and am very, very impressed with the very good response that you gave her and want to congratulate you. [My Allah guide my gay son]

I only wish my mother had someone as sensible and reasonable as yourself to consult when I came out to her at the age of 18, 9 years ago. It was scary just how very similar the woman who wrote to you was exactly like my own mother, who is oh so religious.

Well, as the story goes, I was forced/compelled to leave home and now I live 8 time zones away from my family to lead my own life. My mother laments that she has lost her son, but I felt that she forced me to leave.

I only hope that your very good advice to this woman will help this woman reconcile her differences with her family before it is too late and her son leaves her too.

I am 27, live in London, and work as a banking consultant. I am not Iranian, I am actually from Singapore but have been living in Europe for about 8 years now. I went to your website because I was following the stories on Ladan and Laleh, and it is a story that has touched my heart and I cried many tears for the twins. May they rest in peace.

Once again, keep up the good work. Your writing is very good and your advice is most valuable to your readers. I would like to encourage you to keep on writing and help others, because God knows we need more sensible, helpful people like you in this world to make this world a happier place.

With best regards from London,

Alex L

* Playing with your son's life

Dear mother, [My Allah guide my gay son]

You are destroying your son's life as well as yours. His grades are suffering only because of your strange reaction to his life. It was a big mistake by your husband spying on him. He cannot trust his parents, and there is a big possibility that he leaves you very soon. Unfortunately, he will fall in love in the first place. I think he won't be a right person for him.

Wherever you take him he won't change. Please talk to a counselor. You are the one who needs counseling not your son. You have to talk with your son and hide everything from your husband. In the future your son will support you more than you husband will.

Remember you are playing with your son's life. Don't worry at all. Whether he changes his orientation in the future or not it is up to him. It is not just a matter of his sex life and you can do nothing to stop his heart.

* National strike

The only civilized way to get rid of them is for all Iranians to stock up on food, and fuel slowly, and then to have a national strike. One day no one will turn up for work. Everyone will be at home. The silence will kill them.

The silent majority will show its might. Peacefully they will go. We will not have any blood on the streets, and the world will respect our 5000 years of civilization. Our history has shown how we got rid of Alexander, Arabs, Monguls with ease. So ingore them. Do not give them the time of day.

* International exposure

I'm not sure if you know, but after you featured "Azadi" on your site, I was contacted by Suzanne Marmion, an editor and producer with "The World" radio program based in Boston.

"The World" is a co-production of the BBC World Service and Public Radio International. The interview was aired on July 9. You can see exerpts here.

In any case, I know it's because of your site that the Editor found me and I just wanted to thank you for everything that you do for all of us.

Best,

Shahrzad Sepanlou

* When is time to wake up?

I would like to comment on today's demonstration in New York [July 9, 2003, against the Islamic Republic]. It was so nice and organized. But it was so disappointing to see that so may Iranians living in New York chose not to be there.

The demostrators were mostly Jewish Iranians shouting againts the regime in a loud voice. What happend to so many of our businessmen, doctors and...?

When is time to wake up and get rid of these murderers and dirty mollahs?

* Out of Havana

Islamic Republic of Iran has committed another act of international terrorism and sabotage, this time in conjunction with rouge regime of Cuba. On July 5th, 2002 these international terrorists jammed certain signals into Loral sky net's Telestar 12 satellite which broadcast Iranian TV programming. The interference into transponder 10 on Telestar 12 was emanating from Bejucal located about 20 miles outside of the Cuban capital Havana.

The Bejucal base was built by Russians in early 1990s for monitoring and intercepting satellite communication. The jamming coincided with inauguration of Voice of America's Farsi language television programming to Iran as well as the fourth anniversary of student uprising. Jamming the Telestar 12 uplink cut off broadcasts not only in Iran but in Europe and the rest of Middle East as well.

This malicious act not only affected Iranian TV programs, but also other international TV broadcasts including a Chinese TV program. Alliance of the two tyrant regimes and committing international sabotage to these businesses in America is a clear and present danger to the United States.

I urge the United States government to initiate sanctions against both governments of Cuba and Iran. I ask the Iranian media to file a class action law suits against these two criminal regime's assets in US and Europe and to use any court awarded funds to fight the terrorist regime in Tehran.

* Show courage, Mr. President

President Khatami,

You and the members of the Majlis Shura were elected by the people of Iran with a mandate to bring about change. The will of the people of Iran has been obstructed by non-elected elements seeking to protect their ill-gotten interests and undeserved privileges.

From very early on you were advised to harness the support of the people by calling them into the streets to confront their enemies and to buttress your efforts.

Show the courage you have so far failed to display, not by resigning but by fulfilling your mandate... publicly call the members of the Majlis Shura and the Iranian nation into the streets and place yourself at the head of the crowd, have the citizenry remain in the streets until their demands for change have been met.

If a woman like Corozan Aquino had the courage to use "people power" to uproot a tyrant like Ferdinand Marcos of the Philippines, then certainly a man of your character should have no less courage to honor your commitments to the Iranian nation.

Va salam,

Hamid Boroumand

* If Laleh and Ladan were not Moslem and Iranian

I always wondering if Laleh and Ladan they were not Moslem and Iranian, how many billion dollars would have been collected from all over the world for these two girls or their parents.

Isn't a shame and ihuman that today's civilization around the world so deeply discreminates about nationlilty and religion?

How about if they were from Israel or ....

* I am better

I am an Iranian and grew up mostly in the EU, namely Denmark. We have been expriencing a lot of discrimination in the EU for many years. It's like Nazi Germany.

These people from Western countries are light minded, they are like machines. I am better and more clever and I know I am right and they are wrong. So stop complaining becouse this is the work of right-wing polititions and they are fishing for votes.

* Finally, two likable Iranians

First of all, after decades of mostly negative news and headlines about Iranians in the world, we saw 2 Iranians who enjoyed the respect and admiration of the whole world.

Ladan and Laleh were Courageous, cheerful, optimistic, loving human beings, facing the biggest hardship of their lives with patience, hope and faith.

For a few days they could unite all the nations of the world and let them forget about their nationalities. For the first time in recent years, finally there were 2 likable Iranians in the headlines of the news, replacing the pictures of the death wishing, crying, chanting mobs following or opposing some hateful, greedy political figures. Thanks Ladan and Laleh, you are now the icons of love, courage, patience and hope. Instead of watching the successful activities of the so called untied nations, for a short time we could feel the warmth of the united human hearts. The world is missing you.
