Imam Ali, son-in-law of the Prophet on Thursday May, 1, 2003. Twenty-five
years after Khomeini left Najaf and led the Islamic Revolution that
toppled the Shah and ended 2,500 years of monarchy in Iran, there
is very little of his legacy left in Najaf, where he spent much
of of his 16-year exile after beingexpelled by Shah Mohammed Reza
