Darwish Manwan, right, and their four small children are renting
the house where for more than a decade Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini
made his ablution before prayers, that leads to the final resting
place of Imam Ali, son-in-law of the Prophet on Thursday May, 1,
2003. Twenty-five years after Khomeini left Najaf and led the Islamic
Revolution that toppled the Shah and ended 2,500 years of monarchy
in Iran, there is very little of his legacy left in Najaf, where
he spent much of of his 16-year exile after being expelled by Shah
Mohammed Reza Pahlavi in 1964.(AP Photo/Hasan Sarbakhshian)
