* Mojabi in northern California
On Saturday, December 11, Sokhan Society in San Francisco's Bay Area
will be hosting Dr. Javad Mojabi. Dr. Mojabi a prominent writer and poet
was invited by PEN AMERICA with four other Iranian writers to New York.
The subject of his discussion will be satire in the poetry of Sanei and
Attar. Time: 6:00 PM. Place: 1700 El Camino Real, Room 301, San Mateo (Borel

A filmmaking dynasty-in-the-making where life and art intersect and
imitate one another: the work of Mohsen Makhmalbaf and daughter Samira
Makhmalbaf reflects the struggle to balance modernity and tradition in
Iran. Their films will be shown at the Cinema Arts Centre in Long Island,

* Book reading in Los Angeles
Gelareh Asayesh, author of "Saffron Sky, A Life Between Iran and
America," will be speaking at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 8th on the
campus of the University of Southern California. The event, sponsored by
the Iranian Graduate Student Association of USC, will be held in Room 200
of the Stauffer Lecture Hall. The speech will be followed by a book sale
and signing. Asayesh will also be speaking and signing books at 5 p.m.
Sunday, December 12th, at Ketab Corp's book store in Westwood. She'll be
speaking on KFI Radio's "Handel in the Morning" show on Thursday,
Dec. 9th at 8:30 a.m. and Joe Dominic's "Beneath the Surface,"
at 5 p.m. Dec. 9th.

* Sara Amir for California State Assembly
California State Senator Tom Hayden (D-23rd District, Los Angeles),
who is forced out of the State Senate by term limits, has decided at the
last minute to NOT run in the 42nd State Assembly District. As a result
of Hayden dropping out of the race, former (1998) Green candidate for Lt.
Governor Sara Amir has decided to enter the race on the last day. To support

1998, Amir received 3.1% for Lt. Governor, the highest percentage any third

Abbas Atrvash writes: I'm in the process of writing a book in Persian
about the history of the airline industry in Iran. Any publications, newspapers,

Doostane azizam, Salam. Shahrnoosh Parsipour has recently published
a book that she had written 20 years ago but couldn't get permission to
publish it then in Iran. A few closer friends of hers are trying to use
