April 6, 2000, Beirut (Asian Football) - Iran's Ali Daei
was recognised as Asia's Player of the Year for 1999 at the AFC's annual
awards, held for the first time in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
A long-standing and essential part of the Iran national team, Daei collected
the blue-riband award because in 1999 he did what no Asian player had done
before - scored against some of the best clubs sides in the world in arguably
