* Iranian cultural program at Asian Art Museum, San Francisco
The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco will present two cultural programs
that offer unique insight into Iranian culture and Iranian American experiences.
On Saturday April 29, local Iranian American authors will read selections
from the recently published anthology, A World Between: Poems, Short Stories
and Essays by Iranian-Americans, and on Sunday, April 30, the critically-acclaimed
Iranian film, Gabbeh (The Carpet) will be screened >>>

* Conference on Iranian studies, Washington DC
The Third Biennial Conference on Iranian Studies, sponsored by the American
Institute of Iranian Studies (AIIrS) and the Society of Iranian Studies
(SIS) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Bethesda. The conference will begin
on the evening of May 25, with on-site registration, the opening of the
Book Exhibit, and the inauguration of an art exhibit featuring works from

a collection of the most prominent contemporary artists from Iran has been
brought to the United States. This collection was first introduced at the
International Artexpo and CIMA art gallery in New York in March and April
2000, and will be opening in Washington DC at the International Trade Center

* Iran-Air reunion in Los Angeles
EXIR, the group of Ex-IRAN AIR employees or "Homaiyan" will
have their 3rd world reunion on April 8, 2000 in Los Angeles. At the forthcoming
reunion Homaiyan will also pay tribute to and honor Gen. Ali M. Khademi,
the founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Iran Air (1962-1978), known

A captivating vocalist, Sima Bina is one of the leading exponents of
the traditional music of Khorasan in Eastern Iran. For two decades she
has done extensive research on Persian folk songs, collecting, recording,
writing and re-interpreting popular regional music. By traveling to many
remote areas, she has been able to gather and revive a collection of almost
forgotten songs and melodies. In 1994, she became the first female Iranian
vocalist to tour the West since the Revolution. This season she will bring
an all-female Iranian ensemble- tar (lute), kamancheh (fiddle), daf (frame
drum) and dhol (percussion) - to America for the first time. Tickets: $40,

February 27, 2000 -- D.N. Rahni was the recipient of the first prize,
13th Algorithm (Al-Khawrazmi) Scientific International Award. The Award,
bestowed by the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and Galileo Violini
the Regional Director of UNESCO, is named after the 8th century Persian
Mathematician, Philosopher and Historian, and is co-sponsored by the UNDP,
UNESCO, and the Third World Academy of Sciences among others (www.irost.com
