Young Iranians ready to risk their lives for "Gharb"
By Kianouche Dorranie
TEHRAN, Dec 9 (AFP) - "It was a long and painful experience. I
nearly died of cold and hunger." Hamid's story nearly came to a tragic
end as he attempted to flee Iran, just like thousands of young Iranians
who prefer illegal immigration to unemployment.
The young majority of Iran's 60 million inhabitants is increasingly
obsessed with fleeing recession at home and seeking a better life in Europe
or North America. >>>

Splendor of Persian city seen in drawings, photos

The Washington Times
December 09, 2000
The Freer Gallery of Art and adjacent Arthur M. Sackler Gallery appear
to hold almost endless treasures. The latest riches to be displayed from
this trove are the 25 photographs, drawings, sketchbooks and paper casts
of inscriptions in "Persepolis: Documenting an Ancient Iranian Capital,
1923-1935."
Exhibit curator Ann C. Gunter chose the objects from the Ernst Herzfeld
Papers housed in the galleries' archives. Herzfeld (1879-1948), a German
explorer of the Near East and a specialist in the archaeology, history
and languages of Iran, was the chief archaeologist of the Persepolis project

* Read Freud
Emad writes: I
read some of this gentleman's other writings ["Daastaan-e
anbeh"], and, they are all concerned with similar issues. I wish
he would read some of Freud's work. He might find the answers to his problems
in the pages that deal with sexual pleasures caused by bowel movements.
* He's a fan
Sepideh Banihashemi
writes: "Daastaan-e
anbeh" was so funny. I first thought Sadaf Kiani wrote it herself!
I also read Sadaf's
reaction. She's right: he must have read many of her works! He's so
affected by her style! I think he is a fan of her works too.
* Made me very happy
Mohsen Karrabi,
writes: I am a guy from Iran who lives in Sweden and I do not have
much contact with other Iranians because I live in a small community and
I am the only one from Iran here.
The other day when I was online I saw your article ["Khob...
digeh chetori?"] and it made me very happy. It is great to be
able to read your articles in Farsi.
* Enjoyed it, but...
Ali Parsa writes: I
enjoyed your poem but what did A to Z have to do with your
poem? I may be illiterate about modern poetry and I need to be educated.
Remember that we are all ignorant except along different lines. Apparently
you don't like traditional Persian poetry like the one I sent you. That
is my guess unless you tell me otherwise.

Look again, and see how much I need you;
Watch the long nights that I lie here awake.
No, I am wrong: the distance between us
Will not let me live to see you again.
