The Persian Sphinx is the tale of the enthralling life and tragic death of Amir Abbas Hoveyda, Iran's Prime Minister from 1965-1978. Hoveyda was a central figure in the historic struggle between modernity and tradition in Iran. He embodied the aspirations, accomplishments and the failures of a whole generation of Iranian technocrats, who sought to free Iran from the travails of poverty and repression and guide it into the modern age.

Colorado Persian Society is inviting Jebheye Melli's US representative, Mr. Kambiz Ghaem-Magham to give a talk on Friday, Feb. 9, 2001. * Helping Iranian children

The Foundation for the Children of Iran was founded in the United States in 1991 by a small group of Iranian immigrants. The purpose of The Foundation is to enable children from Iran or of Iranian origin to receive health care services in the United States. The Foundation attempts to provide medical services to indigent children where there is a reasonable chance of a reduction in morbidity or mortality. Further, The Foundation provides those services that are available in the United States, but are not available in Iran.

The Science and Arts Foundation is non-profit independent organisation. Its general policy is to select model state schools in deprived areas of Iran and provide them with modern computer sites and Internet access. When I took on heading the project of supporting the Iranian refugees in the Washington area, it was because no one else volunteered. The next day it hit me how perfect our decision was to support this group as an immediate project. I talked with Paul Johnson, a very active volunteer and Sonia LaFountain, volunteer coordinator/ resource developer with IRC (International Rescue Committee which was founded by Albert Einstein in 1933).
