BBC: Baton-wielding Iranian police have clashed with mourners holding memorials for those killed in post-election violence, reports say. State TV said police used teargas to disperse crowds from the grave of Neda Agha Soltan, whose death became a symbol of post-election unrest. Opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi tried to join the mourners but police forced him to leave, witnesses said. Further confrontations were reported at a second gathering in central Tehran. Several hundred people defied a heavy police presence to gather at the Grand Mossala prayer area, witnesses said >>>

Great Iranians
by Leonis on Fri Jul 31, 2009 09:47 AM PDTIranians have repeatedly shown their superiority in ART, BUSINESS and SCIENCE all around the word, particularly in USA ...... and their inferiority with Islam in Iran.
Denounce this SADISTIC, BRUTAL religion.
Freedom in Iran
by Leonis on Fri Jul 31, 2009 09:43 AM PDTWith Islam, no matter who are the rulers; there will be no justice, no human dignity, no civility and ultimately no FREEDOM.
Iran is blessed with richest natural resources, and yet, the paople are the poorest. Don't you people have enough of it?
Islam is an insult to human dignity. denounce this brutal and barbaric religion of intolerance, stupidity and ignorance.
Regular police and army and other supporters
by rosie is roxy is roshan on Fri Jul 31, 2009 09:36 AM PDTAs we now know, many members of the regular police and regular army have been distinguishing themselves clearly from the Guards and the Baasij in ways that probably could be harmful to themselves, such as publicly showing the V sign (which means victory AND peace) in solidarity with the movement yesterday, no doubt in full view of their superiors, and helpfully guiding the mourners to the grave. I want to talk about another group of people who have been trying to do the same since the beginning.
I read press tv every day. Since the beginning, there have been hatchet jobs on articles reflecting deep shisms and battles taking place from reporting through editing to publication. And not infrequently after publication. Whole articles favorable to the movement have been posted then deleted. Others have appeared with strong language which has been deleted and changed to white bread, and they have been moved to the bottom.
Today the coverage of yesterday's events came out with language favorable to the movement and was relegated to the bottom. Now it has been moved to the top and the language intensified. I am providing the link to the article but I have also copied the text in case it is removed. ( The photo shows the mourners holding up the V sign: victory and peace. Also the original title did not have the word PROTESTERS, just MOURNERS, and the mourners making the V sign did not have black masks.
You have to understand that people do what they can. While Iran has become in the last weeks the 'largest prison for journalists in the world", before even China (Reporters Without Borders), they have done their best, in the face of possible grave consequences. You have to ask yourself, would it have been better if they had just quit their jobs instead of from the get-go fighting the IRI propaganda apparatus from within?
These people deserve to be acknowledged and respected as individuals.

Text of today's article currently on top of the page of Press TV:
TITLE: On mourning day, Iran police arrest 50 protestersFri, 31 Jul 2009 13:10:54 GMT :
PHOTO CAPTION: Iranian protestors flash the victory sign and hold green ribbons in a memorial ceremony at the Behesht-e-Zahra cemetery, Thursday, July 30, 2009. Iranian police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse thousands of mourners.ARTICLE TEXT: At least 50 Iranians were arrested when thousands of people gathered in Tehran and other cities to commemorate those killed in the country's post-election unrest, a senior police official says.
Mourners swarmed Tehran's main cemetery, Behesht-e-Zahra, on Thursday on the 40th day since the death of Neda Agha-Soltan, a young woman whose death shocked Iranians and people around the world, and a number of others.
A vast deployment of anti-riot police, who used tear gas and batons, were on the scene to maintain order after former presidential candidate Mir-Hossein Mousavi arrived at the cemetery to visit the victim's graves and offer prayers.
He, however, was barred by the police from leaving his car, turning the gathering violent.
"About 50 of the participants of yesterday's gatherings were arrested, but most of them were released shortly after their detention," Tehran police commander Brigadier General Azizollah Rajabzadeh said Friday.
The protests, which spread to other districts in the capital city following the Behesht-e-Zahra gathering, were also used by Iranian opposition to once again question the outcome of the disputed June presidential election.
The opposition claims the election, in which President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was re-elected by a landslide, was “fraudulent”.
Thousands of mourners and protestors gathered around the Grand Mosalla, an enormous half-built mosque in central Tehran, but were dispersed by security forces.
Brig. Gen. Rajabzadeh said the detainees who had major roles in yesterday's unrest would be handed to Judiciary officials, the Iranian Labor News Agency (ILNA) reported.
At least 30 people, according to Iranian lawmaker Farhad Tajari, were killed in post-election violence in Iran.
Tehran's police commander said no police officers were injured in yesterday's protests. There are no reports available of possible casualties and injuries among protesters.

(Every minute changing: now just in my retrieving the link, they got the photo of the V sign on the front page, and I realized the masks are to protect the identities of the mourners. In the original photo you could see their faces. They have also not published the Jannati statements).

by David ET on Fri Jul 31, 2009 07:24 AM PDTYes , slogans are from yesterday
People started asking for their vote back (no to Ahmadinajd) which were responded with beating, imprsionment and bullets authorized by Khamenei. As the regime continued its oppression under leadership of Khamenei, the slogans developed to death to dictator, to Khamenei and now directly calling him a murderer .
and now we even hear the calls for a secular Iranian Republic . People have now crossed out the (Islamic) out of the republic:
(See the top of my blogs: xxxxxxx Republic of Iran )
As usual The people are few steps ahead of the reformist leaders:
Independence, Freedom and Iranian Republic
