Was the Shah delusional?

I had compiled this article just before the death of my father Nosratollah Amini and now in his memory and on the occasion of 29th of Ordibehesht (18th of May), Mohammad Mosaddeq’s birthday, I am posting it. My father was an honest, kind and caring human being who was not just the attorney to Mosaddeq, but to many others, including Gholam Reza Takhti and Shamshiri. May his memory live in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. The following are excerpts from the Shah’s last book translated from the original French by Teresa Waugh and published in Great Britain by Michael Joseph Ltd in 1980. As I was reading this interesting text, I came across these few passages>>>

هوس های سکسی مارسیا

مارسیا هر روز صبح که از خواب بیدار می شود پرده های کلفت اتاق را به کناری می زند تا آفتاب بی رمق جزیره تمام زورش را بزند تا کمی اتاق را گرم کند آنقدر که صورت در سایه مانده اش را روشن تر کند تا که چشم هایش رمق بگیرد. تصور کن نور درست ما بین چشم های سیاه و درشتش بتابد و مارسیا شروع به خندیدن کند. صدای ریزش آب چه از داخل حمام و چه از شیرهای دستشویی و آشپزخانه باید از خانه شنیده شود. به قول خودش حس جنسی غالبی دارد که روزش را می سازد. با حوله ی کوچکی که به رنگ شیره ای است از حمام بیرون می آید و آگاهانه سعی می کند سفت به کمرش بسته نباشد تا با تلنگری به پایین غلت بخورد و سعی هم می کند که حواس پرت نشان داده شود!>>>

Why I will not vote for Moussavi

I have given up all hopes of a regime change in Iran. Heck I can’t even change my own regime (in the French sense of diet) far less fathom the fall of the now almighty, clear-winner-of-the-Iraq-war, Islamic Republic of Iran. I now, once again, think that perhaps reform from within the system is the best solution for Iran. I was a big supporter of Khatami until he betrayed the students and all the rest of us in the 18th Tir uprising. I like much of what Moussavi has to say but frankly he bores me. I just listened to his TV speech and found myself yawning three minutes into it. I do not agree with Ahmadinejad on 90% of issues but the guy certainly has more chutzpah than this diet-coke of a reformist >>>

Human Rights: Ba-Humbug?

Large sums of money have been and are being spent on creating seemingly spontaneously grown citizens' organizations that shape and give direction to dissent among the populations over-lorded by governments not liked by the U.S. It is natural that, in these half-covert operations, human rights are used as a wedge issue. Because of this push by the right into the discursive and practical area of 'human rights', some western leftists have abandoned this area of advocacy when it comes to countries they perceive as being under attack by the imperialists, and therefore most talk of human rights violations in such countries has become taboo, since it allegedly paves the way for the continuation of the imperialist interventions, and subjugation of more natives around the world>>>

احمدی نژاد باید برود

احمدی نژاد باید برود، این را همه می دانیم. اینکه ایشان می توانند انسانی سالم و متدین باشند (که حتما هم اینطور است) دلیلی بر تکیه بر مسند ریاست جمهوری ایران نیست. هزاران جایگاه دیگر برای فعالیت سازنده ایشان در کشور وجود دارد. از منش آقای احمدی نژاد اینگونه بر می آید که احترام متقابل و صداقت در زندگیشان تا به حال مفهومی نداشته است، یعنی به کسی احترام نگذار و اگر بی احترامی دیدی اهمیتی نده، دقیقا چیزی که در سیاست خارجی فعلی ایران و ارتباطات داخلی کشور دیده می شود. پس اولین رکن یک انسان شایسته در شخصیت ایشان زیر سئوال است و بماند هزاران مشکل دیگر، که این روزها، هر ساعت لیست بلند بالای بی لیاقتی های دولت را می بینیم در تباهی 4 سال درخشان ایران. >>>

نذر آزادی!

در پديده ی موسوم به «همگرايي بخشی از جنبش زنان» می بينيم که زنان پديد آورنده ی آن از کانديداهای رياست جمهوری «مطالبه ی حقوق» کرده اند. روشن است که اين حق دموکراتيک اين زنان است که چنين خواستی را با چنان کانديداهایی مطرح سازند. اما طرفه آن است که برخی از اين زنان حاضر نيستند بپذيرند که ديگران هم حق دارند موضع گيری و برخورد آن ها را ـ آن هم در جريان انتخاباتی غير دموکراتيک ـ نقد کنند. به راستی چرا بخشی از جنبش زنان حق ندارد به بخش ديگر اين جنبش بگويد «خواست شما در زير سقف حکومت اسلامی، به خصوص آنجا که سخن از پذيرش کنوانسيون رفع تبعيض "با حفظ موازين اسلامی" پيش می آيد تخفيف و پايين آوردن حق زنان است؟» و به راستی چرا باور ندارند که ديگرانی هم حق دارند که بگويند: «اين مطالبه و آن پاسخگويي از جانب کانديداها يعنی درجا زدن در قوانين موجود >>>

An Identity Case

The secretary at Internal Affairs led Molson to Officer Davis’s office. He was rather old but still stood ramrod. He sported an out-dated moustache. “What can I do for you, sir?” the man asked. He was fair with brown eyes. He reminded Molson of his own father. Molson hoped his looks matched his personality. “I am here to complain about Officer Robert Campbell. Do you know him?” “Yes I do.” The man was quick in his response. “He is one of our finer policemen.” “I am afraid not, sir,” Molson said. “I’m here to file a complaint against him.” “On what account?” The man’s voice didn’t change. “He displayed racism in his encounter with me.” Molson repeated the sentence Kasra had taught him. >>>

Morphing a Theocracy

There is election fever in the air, not in Iran but on Iranian.com. The mounting excitement transmitted through a number of consecutive articles and a barrage of favorable comments has been contagious. Iran’s reform movement has been mobilized to silence the critics and downplay the significance of daunting issues. The showdown, however, doesn’t appear to be between the opposing candidates from the conservative camp and the Reforms Front. Here, on Iranian.com, the face-off is between those seeking to rehabilitate the Islamic Republic of Iran and the political activists in quest of overthrowing the regime. After all, the prevalent fear amongst the reformists isn’t losing an election by large or small margins>>>

آغاز یك تحول

در آستانه رأی‌گیری ۲۲ خرداد، بیش از ۵۰ نفر از شخصیت‌های سیاسی و حقوق بشری، و فعالان كارگری، دانشجویی و زنان در ایران به تشكیل نهادی تحت عنوان «همبستگی برای دمکراسی و حقوق بشر درايران» دست زده‌اند و اولین بیانیه خود را منتشر كرده‌اند. در این بیانیه، از ۱۲‌ ماده به عنوان اصول «مورد نظر» این نهاد یاد شده است. در باره شكل وساختار نهاد، اما، ابهاماتی وجود دارد. در یك جا از این هم‌بستگی به عنوان «جنبش» یاد شده است؛ و در اطلاعیه دیگری كه منتشر شده از آن به عنوان «كمیته» نام برده شده و تعدادی از «مؤسسان» آن تحت عنوان «اعضای شورای موقت اجرایی كمیته» مشخص گردیده‌اند. در اطلاعیه اولی، از «پیوستن» افراد دیگری ‌به «این جنبش» یاد شده است، و در دومی از «همه ایرانیان و آزادی‌خواهان جهان» خواسته شده كه «كمیته را در راستای ‌اهداف خود یاری ‌كنند»>>>

مرگ بر آمریکا

من سفارشی مقاله می نویسم. مثلاً امشب قرار است طبق معمول در تقبیح اقدامات آمریکا و توطئه و اشنگتن برای ایجاد مشکلات در راه پیشرفت ایران مقاله ای بنویسم. اصطلاحاً به این گونه مقالات می گویند : مرگ بر آمریکا. تازگی هم یاد گرفته ام که بر طبق استانداردAPAمراجعی را در طول مقاله اعلام کنم که هیچکدام سروته ندارند. اسم چند نویسنده مطرح را در آمریکاو کاناداو اروپا یاد گرفته و به صورتی کاملاً الله بختکی از کتابهایشان نقل قول میکنم. در طول سی سال گذشته مقالات من روند یکسانی داشته اند، اغلب به صورتی کاملاً کلیشه ای احزاب جمهوریخواه و دموکرات را سر و ته یک کرباس تصویر کرده و هر دو را غلام حلقه به گوش کمپانی های نفتی معرفی میکنم. شاید اگر همه مقالات مرا جمع آوری کنند، تعداد واژه های آنها از یک هزار تا بیشتر نباشد که همانها را درهمه نوشته هایم تکرار می کنم. احتمالاً هم هیچ شعاری را هم به اندازه مرگ بر آمریکا طوطی وار بر قلمم جاری نمی کنم>>>

On Wednesday, Molson was at his office sooner than ever—at eight twenty five—sitting behind his desk, freshly shaved, in his brown silk shirt, a yellow tie, and shiny brown leather shoes, with a mug of coffee in his hand—waiting for Liz to show up. The beauty salon was still close, otherwise he would have checked it on his way to work. At eight thirty sharp when he heard the door open, he jumped up and ran to the other room. It was Henry. “Oh, hello Molson,” he said in a thick Chinese accent. “I worried. The office open.” “I decided to come early to see if you come on time,” Molson said. “Oh. Yeah yeah yeah. Sorry. False hopes

Just as he is being criticized by those to his right for his emphasis on engagement with Iran, President Obama came under attack from the left, in the op-ed pages of the May 23 New York Times, for just the opposite. Unlike critics from the right who largely concur with the president's stated objectives but disagree with his tactics, Flynt Leverett and Hillary Mann Leverett argue for a full about-face on Iran policy. Obama's current policy, they assert, is doomed to fail unless he repudiates pressure and instead accommodates the Iranian regime and its nuclear aspirations, ostensibly in order to improve U.S.-Iran relations. The Leveretts both misread the Iranian regime and misapprehend U.S. interests>>>
