I like the idea and have often thought about it but then time after time I have asked myself,

Are we a nation that is truly deserving of a “William Wallace”? As DK points out, we have had such character throughout our history but they have often been betrayed and sold out by our own for the promise of land, title or wealth! Let’s be honest, do we really appear to be a nation and people that are ready to embrace democracy? The way I see the sad truth is that a large majority of Iranians have no appreciation for such concepts of unity, and following a unified ideology that would be beneficial and fare to all, we have major issues with recognizing the concept of rights and duties and following a systematic approach to law and order. We tend to be self centered and selfish, “yekeh taaz”, “namak nashnaas” and always “talab kar”

I think DK nailed it, we first have to evolve into a nation that can rally around ONE IDEA that would unite us, until then we may truly be better off with a modern day dictator that truly cares about the prosperity of his people and country, separating state and religion and rule them with an Iron fist, like a caring father would over his knotty and “bazy goosh” children.

I guess history will tell.

We still have a long way to go but like Ari I also believe that the solution to Iran's Ill's is not in the emergence of ONE person but rather of ONE IDEA.

Whether that Idea will ultimately be a Republic as prefered by some on this thread or a Constitutional Monarchy which has my preference what we should aim is indeed the respect of the upcoming INSTITUTION whose role is to guarantee our Freedoms as Individuals and work towards reinforcing our national unity and collective peaceful co-existance.

Either way it is easier said than done ...

However, I respectfully disagree completely with that so called "HOLINESS" (I assume you are talking about the psycho-path Khomeini, Right?) bigger than life argument... With lack of technological advancement and communications worldwide in those days, Iranians in 1979 and prior that were badly uneducated and superstitious to believe and trust in a digusting man with massive psychological issues and insanities such as Khomeini...Please do not compare then and NOW!!!

And if you must, why not talk about a man like "Reza Khaan" instead???

Again, I agree we all individually need to be the change we want to see in the world and in our case Iran, but at this confusing, hurtful and uninspiring times, I personally vote for another Reza Khaan and preferably an  "Iranian William Wallace" any day...

Our True Iranian "William Wallace" must be an Iranian Nationalist who has NOT much to lose (family and loved ones or perhaps one who has already lost his/her family and loved ones to these Satan worshipers...) by putting his/her precious life on the line against the Tyranny of Satanic Republic occupying our Motherland Iran, Period. Someone who would contact all the world's major news and media and issues a RADICAL WARNING to Islamic Republic in the loudest and most aggrasive fashion ever possible!!! Only then, The world will take a person like that seriously and most importantly Iranians inside Iran!!! After seeing a man/woman like that, Iranians will rise up and will rally behind him/her.
