Sorry Shazdeh, missed it, here's an update
by aynak on Sun Sep 05, 2010 11:32 PM PDTand the list is frozen as promised. (that will put the option seven at slightly higher than 70% here).
2 people voted for option 6 (constitutional monarchy)
1 person voted for Islamic Republic 9
17 people voted option 7 (Jomhoury, fully elected system)
2 people voted for option 3 (however they like to take it).
Conclusion: I make my own - you say?
by Shazde Asdola Mirza on Sun Sep 05, 2010 06:35 PM PDTWell I conclude that my vote does not count ... again!
Dear Aynak: what happened to my vote for the 7 th option, right underneath you nose?
Now I have to start a green movement to get my vote count?
Final tally and an analysis
by aynak on Sun Sep 05, 2010 08:52 AM PDT2 people voted for option 6 (constitutional monarchy)
1 person voted for Islamic Republic 9
16 people voted option 7 (Jomhoury, fully elected system)
2 people voted for option 3 (however they like to take it).
===================================================
This obviously is not a scientific poll. However, in the context of a poll taken from a specific group, it has certain telling property.
Of those who voted, and this has been hanging here for anyone to participate, we see an overwhelming support for a option 7, or a system of government that is based on frequent/free/open voting system to decide who should run a future Iran. In including the 2 incomprehnsible votes:
out of 23, 16 voted for this.
70% For a fully elected government (Republic, or a Prime-minister based head of government etc, which comes to power strictly on direct or indirect vote).
roughly 9% (8.65%) pr 2 votes were cast for a constitutional monarchy
same for no option.
and 4.5% (1 voted) for some sort of Islamic government.
=====================================================
Observations:
1-Some bloggers who show up supporting Isalmic Regimes government with 100 different user names, did not find the concept of a poll very appealing. Makes you wonder why?
2-Some bloggers who presumably want their version of democracy but belive in bombing Iran to democracy (much like it has been achieved in Afghanestan and Iraq already), are conspicuously absent here as well.
3-People who fundamentally don't believe in voting as the ultimate tie break in political disputes, but advocate it for short term gains, typically make fun of any attempt to do so, and they are obvious in this thread as well.
4-I have conducted, and have seen similar polls conducted in various internet media outlets. Without exception option 7 gains the majority. However, when we look at the Persian speaking TV's or listen to Radios, it appears they are almost exclusively controlled by supporters of IRI or Monarchy. This results in general mis perception, suggestiong these two options (Islamic governments/Monarchy) with much less popular support are the only viable choices.
Conclusion:
You make your own.
Hey, this is getting serious - I want a number 7 too!

No change by the end of 4th day
by aynak on Wed Sep 01, 2010 08:14 AM PDTthose who know they can not win a popular vote --on an ongoing basis-- for the reactionary systesm they propose, would try to be cute with their responses.
Otherwise, the numbers I have seen here as well as other sites with bigger samples, tells a clear desire, for a fully electable and accountable system of government. That is why, supporters of these dictatorships, (Just like Islamic Regime) would not mind a --One time-- referendom. But it is the permanance of voting as a tool that is so frightening to them. After all, it is easy to be a democrat while you are not in power. Even Khomanee proved that while in Paris. In Tehran though....

Ari,
by No Fear on Mon Aug 30, 2010 02:38 AM PDTI suspect Ahmadinejad has lost the support of the ultra conservatives and the traditional conservatives in Iran. But i hope he has gained more from the secular greens to his credit.
Its hard to estimate how much support he has lost and how much he has gained. But i think when his subsidy elimination policy comes in full effect, he would lose even more support.
Thanks no fear
by Ari Siletz on Mon Aug 30, 2010 12:02 AM PDTWhat is the next step forward? Also--in your estimate--how many Iranians who voted for Ahmadinejad support those goals and how many prefer IR version 1.0?
Ari, ( about civil rights )
by No Fear on Sun Aug 29, 2010 10:10 PM PDTWhile Ahmadinejad is in no way representing an ideal system, he is the best transitional candidate to bridge between IR version 1.0 and the next step forward. We voted for him not because he was our goal, but because he could remove certain obstacles and make reaching our goals, easier. We also never doubted his nationalistic credentials.
I understand as a diasporan you are interested about foreign policies and civil rights. Ahmadinejad has had profound influences on both these issues.
For the first time in IR history, a woman was appointed as a minister in Ahmadinejad's cabinet. This was interesting since Ahmadinejad purged the clergies from the administration. He also allowed women to attend a football match which caused quite a controversy. While he gave in to the pressure, he pushed forward for a women's football team and won this battle.
Ahmadinejad also delayed the " monkeraat bill " introduction to the parliament for ratification for 6 years. This also caused quite a controversy which resulted in a split between the neo conservatives and the traditional conservatives headed by Larijani. Ask any family in Iran and they will tell you the freedom of dressing and the relaxation on it is unprecedented in IR history in Iran. Women could only wear Purple, brown or black dresses before Ahmadinejad era on the streets. Take a look at Iran now! Ahmadinejad has always mentioned how people dress is not his administration objectives.
Also, freedom of expression improved greatly during his administration. As a person who goes through most of Iranian publications in Iran ( Daily News ), I can testify that there are more newspapers opposing his administration than those who are pro Ahmadinejad. Iranians also enjoy relative freedom over the internet. Blogs and social network sites are a huge thing in Iran. Many of these freedoms were banned during the most liberal reformist president in Iran. Just as an example, in the recent book exhibition in Iran, we noticed Ayatollah Shariatmadari's book on the shelves! This was after a 30 year ban on his books. Do you understand how huge this is?
Do i need to mention the benefits of public debates which Ahmadinejad started?
Have you seen the recent musics coming out of Iran? I saw one and i thought it was recorded in Los Angeles, seriously. Women were singing and playing musical instruments. Ofcourse these are basic rights, but even your beloved reformists denied our people from these basic rights.
But perhaps the one that i care the most is the handling of political prisoners. While Ahmadinejad's admin. is not entirely influential on the fate of these prisoners, but he has constantly mentioned that his government works closely with the judiciary and keep asking for leniency. I compare some of these sentences with those who were convicted before Ahmadinejad's era, and there is a noticable difference in the severity of sentences.
Heck, i am just glad the prisoners names are publicly published and their voices heard.
Show me any other politician in Iran's recent history who has done more?
