maryam's seventeen year old cousin came to me the other day and told me that he has decided to grow his beard. I felt good that he has come to me for advise in how to grow beard. when i told him about how to grow and trim his new beard he told me that i was wrong. he said that he has already looked it up in the internet and he knows exactly how to grow and trim new beard. he was told to grow his beard for four weeks and he should not touch it or trim it for that period. then after the four weeks is over he can start to trim it and so on. i was thinking that when i was seventeen how did i and all the other seventeen year-olds survive with out the internet. now anything we need we just google it and it is there in front of us. when i was 13 or 14 i had a note book in which i had written all the countries in the world (i think there were only about 110 of them) and their capitals and the name of their money and the name of their kings or presidents. i also had a lot of other information written in that book as a reference. i also had encyclopedias and dictionaries to refer to and i also visited the library to look up things or to borrow books. now all you need is one computer and with out moving from you chair you can not only get all those information, you can get recipes to cook all kinds of foods, how to fix your dish washer, how to tie your tie in three different ways, and how to grow your beard. as americans say , i am in awe.

Dear SHABZENDEHDAR
by Monda on Sun Aug 10, 2008 11:15 AM PDTHave you tried organic camomile tea or some mild yoga before bedtime? Both help relax and prep you for a good night's rest, as well as many other techniques. Let me know if you're interested.
You know, this IS part of our full daily lives, to read iranian.com and share with others our specific points of intrigue for the day/weeks/decades. For me it's therapeutic to read about other's life events and sometimes feel that I am on the same page as another in some part of the world. I learn from reading about/from another person. I love books and other resources too, but the quality of being here is different...it serves a different personal purpose for me. You don't have to agree or diagree with any contributor's way of expression either or better yet, come up with your own style, over time.

This is only the beginning!!
by Kaveh Nouraee on Fri Aug 08, 2008 11:33 AM PDTBN jaan,
Right now Maryam's cousin is only 17. At that age, the ability to grow a beard has little to do with facial fashion and everything to do with asserting his manhood.
The fun part comes in a few years, when his Iranian follicles are working at full speed and capacity and he will be dealing with the issue of shaving first thing in the morning then having to deal with a "five o'clock shadow" before 1:15 in the afternoon.
what is this world coming to?!
by Monda on Fri Aug 08, 2008 08:30 AM PDTPeople need manual to grow beard?! BJ jon I need to pass along your piece to my teenage kid, maybe she'd find some instructions on growing back her eyebrows! Ohman we had it so good with pencil and paper, nah? Yadash bekhair.
Ebi jon, our son went through the same "phase" of spending lots of $$ for haircuts, well not $60, but to me $30 was too extravagant. UNTIL he started his first full time job, then over a few months I once again became his favorite salon!

by bajenaghe naghi on Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:30 AM PDTno offense is taken. it is always good to hear from someone who takes the time to read what i write. as for depth and quality of what i write i must admit that i don't give this much thought since i do not write for depth or quality. i write about what is on my mind and what i think at the moment of writing, like just at this very moment. what i write here is very visceral and very raw. it describes me and my life and my experiences in my life. it talks about my values and how i see things. you may find this to be of no value or boring. that is your prerogative. i think your taste is to read something more structured, better written and more polished. well my friend i am neither a structured man nor am i a polished one. sorry to let you down on these points.
another thing that i like to write is about things other people don't. is there anything wrong to be a little different, a little skewed, a little angular, a little common.
i must say that iranian.com is big enough to nurture and accommodate all types and styles of writing. you and many others may find my writhing crude, shallow, ugly, or boring. but thanks to jj and this great medium, you have so many opportunities of reading well written, well thought of, and very polished writings that will suit you and your depth and intellect.

by bajenaghe naghi on Thu Aug 07, 2008 07:03 PM PDTI used to trim my own hair to save money but since I no longer have fokol and am quite bold i can not save money this way. i also used to cut other peoples hair at school to earn money.
i remember the poem which is very appropriate and lovely.
i tried to understand the video but could not get it. the reason may be i am not to with it or the movie sucked may be darius jan can be the judge of that.

by Live From Tehran (not verified) on Thu Aug 07, 2008 06:58 PM PDTWith all due respect, I'm a person who is interested in reading many sources of short essay material that firstly has style and secondly has depth...my question is for you...Sir, are you bored? Or are you writing just for the sake of writing... No offense..
At last am acknowledged by my own peers !
by ebi amirhosseini on Thu Aug 07, 2008 06:27 PM PDTStupid me,trimming my own hair once in a while to save some lousy $ !!.Believe me that's story of all fathers & sons, one way or another.
"Like Fathers,Like Sons".
Do you remeber this poem in our Farsi books in school( if I remember it correctly):
Digaraan Kaashtand,Maa Khorim !
Maa Kaarim,Digaraan Khorand !
Our fathers also did it in their own way, didn't they?!
P.S.
Did you see the clip ?!

by ebi amirhosseini on Thu Aug 07, 2008 05:30 PM PDTYou & I are a kind of " Ashaabe Kahf".
My son is another version,he goes to a fancy hair salon, the guy is from LA Blah Blah salon, pays him 50 $( Panjaah hezaar Toman for Ashaabe Kahf) for a cut plus 10 $ ( Dah Hezaar Toman) tip, then the next day calls me to bathroom to trim his hair!!!since according to him I do a better job than his hair stylist?!!when I tell him let me do it & spend the 60 $ on other stuff(or a night out with your girl friend),his reply is :
Dad,you are only good for trimming my hair!!
