Composer GINGGER SHANKAR’s Eclectic and Beautiful Soundtrack to
MARYAM KESHAVARZ’s “CIRCUMSTANCE” Is Finally Released

Winner of the 2011 Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, Maryam Keshavarz’s film, “Circumstance”, explores the question of homosexuality in modern Iran through the eyes of Atafeh, the teenage daughter of a wealthy family in Tehran. The director is forbidden to come back to Iran where the film is banned.  The evocative and eclectic score is composed by double violinist / vocalist / composer, Gingger Shankar, featuring Iranian artists including:  Andy, Sussan Deyhim, Leila Forouhar, Shahrum Kashani, Zedbazi, just to name a few.

Gingger is the granddaughter of the legendary sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar. A uniquely talented musician herself, Gingger Shankar has mastered the art of the double-violin. Having worked with the likes of Smashing Pumpkins, Tony Levin, James Newton Howard, Rabbit in the Moon and many others, it is Gingger Shankar’s collaboration with John Debney in 2004 on the Oscar nominated score for “Passion of The Christ” that launched her film scoring career.

The soundtrack to “Circumstance” is a telling example of Gingger Shankar’s wide range of talents.  It possesses multiple colors and facets from the down tempo song “Finding You”, the subtle and hypnotic piano driven cues such as “Shireen Is Lost”, “Fantasy Love Theme”, to the fusion / techno influenced “Between Worlds”. This is an eclectic soundtrack that will dive the listeners into the world of Teheran’s musical underground.

To celebrate the release of the album, Gingger Shankar will perform an exclusive show with a four-piece band at Largo at The Coronet in Los Angeles on July 18, 2012 with special guest Willie Watson (Old Crow Medicine Show).  She will be providing a sneak peak at her brand new live show, which will kickoff this fall.   Gingger Shankar will be performing songs from her forthcoming album “Beautiful Imperfections”, as well as her extensive soundtrack work.
