He is currently hot property in Hollywood following the critical and commercial success of crime drama The Town. Now Ben Affleck has been approached to direct a hostage drama set during the Iranian revolution.

444 Days - US Embassy under seige Iran 1979:

Based on a Wired magazine article titled How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, the project is a political thriller with elements ofwry humour, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will portray an elaborate attempt by US andCanadian operatives to rescue six American diplomats who were trapped in theoccupied US embassy following the fall of the Shah in 1979.

The US citizens were successfully extracted after the CIA concocted a scenario in which they were members of a Hollywood film crew scouting for a movie titled Argo. With help from a disguise expert, the rescue was a success and the diplomats were able to leave the country. Movie designs and drawings developed for a real project by legendary comic artist Jack Kirby, co-creator of Captain America and The X-Men, were used by the CIA to convince Iranians that the film really didexist. Chris Terrio has adapted Joshuah Bearman's 2007 article on the subject.

I agree 100% about your comments relating to the Pahlaivs and their benevolence towards Jews. It was indeed a unique time for them.

Mr Affleck should know better.

SOS-FREE-IRAN

thanks SiMORGH. Sue Ben Affleck for Blood Libel

by SOS-FREE-IRAN on

Here is the correction:

Here we go again. Mr. Affleck's newest film persecutes the Pahlavi Monarchy with its blood libel. Mr. Affleck, Benjamin Géza Affleck-Boldt, an
Irish-Scott named after a Hungarian Holocaust Survivor, GEZA, should
know better than spew out BLOOD LIBEL against our Kind and Benevolent
Pahlavi King whose generosity and kindness to the Jews and Israel is
legendary. Our King was the first leader in the middle east to
recognize Israel. He provided economic aid to fledgling Israel. Here
are these American Jews/Israeli's stabbing him in the back. Enough is
Enough.

As Iranians we need to rise up and come to the defense of our
beloved Pahlavi Kings who have been persecuted by these bloody
shameless liars. Why is Mr. Affleck repeating the lies of Mr. Khomeini
and Iran's enemies? Is Mr. Affleck, a supporter of Islamic Republic?
The weight of evidence in the past 30 years has exposed these
allegations against our Shah to be false: radical terrorists used lies to justify the overthrow of Iran's monarchy. So why is Mr. Affleck making these slanderous statements?
Shame on this Ben Afflack.

One can say - brutal murderous regime applies to israel, to America, to Britain, to Islamic Republic.

The legacy of our Pahlavi king - the Shah - is that of a secular
democratic visionary leader who brought justice, prosperity, and peace
for Iran, the Middle East, and the world.

I thnk Ben Affleck's background is Catholic and protestant.I am not aware of him being Jewish.  There are good and bad in all races and yes Israel did sell arms to the IR - which was duplicitous and hypocritical but at the end the arms given to Iran from Israel were decisive to the liberation of Khuzestan and drawing back Saddam Hussein's occupation of Iran.

There certainly are Jews who have slandered the Shah but there are also very loyal ones living in American and Israel. Whatever you may think of Israel it is the only country which has stood firm behind the name 'Persian Gulf' and on it Radio Israel programme you can still see the Lion and the Sun emblem  proudly fixed on the Iranian flag. N other country in the world embraces our true flag. Shimon Peres has publicly, at least, made some very kind remarks about the Shah.

In contrast Iranian, com refuses to acknowledge our Iranian national flag and has no emblem in the centre because it is supposedly neutral - or being veru cowardly.

Darius jan, Ben Affleck is one of my favorite actors

by Anahid Hojjati on

Thanks Darius jan for your blog. Affleck has been one of my most favorite actors for several years. I even liked him when people did not like him after Jennifer Lopez romance. I am glad that he is once again doing well. But then US movie scene is too extreme. First they build up someone and then they bring him down and then they say that there has been a comeback. The truth is that it has been steady state quality of work from Affleck.

Can Ben Affleck be sued for BLOOD LIBEL?

by SOS-FREE-IRAN on

Of all people, one would expect the Jews to be the most sensitive to use of BLOOD LIBEL because they were  unjustly persecuted. Now  Here is a Jew spreading BLOOD LIBEL ABOUt OUr KIND AND BENEVOLENT PAHLAVI KINGS who put Iran on the map, gave us passport, dignity, human rights, prosperity, peace, and happiness. What more could we want from these people? What did they do to incur the wrath of these mosdoorans? they Built Iran.

The Pahlavi Kings were the most humanitarian kings in Iran's history. Their kindness and generosity to Israel and its Jewish people is legendary. Why do we allow these Jewish Hollywooders to spread bloody libel/slander against our King?

why do Jews despise Iran and its Pahlavi Monarchy despite everything we did for these ungrateful jews? These Jews are supporters of the rapist Islamic Republic and its successors.

Shame on Ben Affleck. May god curse him and his children. May he be afflicted with the worst diseases.

You know what this is going to turn out like

by Simorgh5555 on

Ben Affleck explains in Oprah Winfrey's 'O' magazine that one of the five important books which made a difference was Ryszard Kapuscinksi's Shah of Shah (for the uninitiated this is a deranged Left Wing anti-Shah propaganda crap just as bad as Satrapi's Persepolis)

 //www.mohammadmossadegh.com/news/ben-affleck/

According to Affleck the Shah's regime was a "murderous, brutal dictatorial regime' - ever so knowledgeable these Hollywood actor types!

The message of this film will be predictable: Yes the taking of US hostages was bad but if the US had not supported the fascists dictator Shah then the Iranians would not have any reasons to resent America. YAWN! Heard it all before.

Oh, and just so you will know, when this vile anti-Shah film comes out confused monarchist Darius Kadivar will do his best to promote it for the Iranian community in the same way as he has done for Marjaneh -The- Shah -burnt down -Cinema -Rex- Satrapi.
