In March 1956, Juan Carlos was handling a gun that accidentally went off and killed his 14-year-old younger brother Alfonso. The king, then 18, was reported to have been completely shocked and devastated and was said to have told family and friends that he 'felt responsible.' The accident happened in Estoril, Portugal.
Spain's royal family has been the focus of much media attention in recent months.
Felipe Juan Froilan is the son of King Juan Carlos's eldest daughter Infanta Elena. Felipe Juan Froilan was doing target practice outside a family home north of Madrid when he misfired, injuring his right foot, Spanish media report. Under Spanish law, children under 14 are not allowed to use firearms and questions have been raised as to whether the boy's parents will be held legally responsible for the accident. Spain's royal family has faced a lot of unwelcome attention in recent months over corruption allegations facing the husband of another of the king's daughters, Cristina. (See Related BBC News)

He was with his father, Jaime de Marichalar, at their home in the town of Soria on Monday afternoon when he fired a small calibre rifle that wounded his right foot, the palace said. He had been spending the last day of the Easter holiday at the house with his sister.
His mother stayed with him overnight in hospital and his grandmother Queen Sofia is expected to pay a visit on Tuesday, Spanish media say.

Spain says Argentina shot itself in foot ... REALLY ? ;0))
by Darius Kadivar on Tue Apr 17, 2012 10:44 AM PDTSpain warns Argentina of 'damage' (bbc)
Spain has said Argentina shot itself in the foot with its decision to nationalise the Spanish majority stake in the YPF oil company.
Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said he had warned the Argentine ambassador of damage to relations between the two countries.
The majority stake in YPF is owned by Spanish oil firm Repsol, whose shares fell by 6% in Madrid.
The nationalisation alarmed investors but is said to be popular in Argentina.

The rhetoric shows that there is real anger in Madrid but the best course of action for Spain's government now is less clear.
It will want to send a signal to Buenos Aires to show that its plan to take over Repsol's stake in YPF is not acceptable. However Spain and Argentina are strong trading partners, and when your economy is facing trouble at home, you need all the help you can get from abroad.
There will also be concern over other large Spanish companies based in Argentina, like the mobile phone operator Telefonica or Spain's biggest bank, Santander.
Madrid already has support from the EU and, on his scheduled trip to Colombia and Mexico, Spain's Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy will want to garner support in Argentina's immediate region.

Spain's King Juan Carlos has undergone hip replacement surgery following a fall on a private trip to Botswana, the Royal Palace has said.
The king suffered a triple fracture of the hip, which the palace said was "linked to arthritis".
This is the fourth operation the 74-year-old king has undergone in the past two years.
Earlier this week, the king's 13-year-old grandson was treated in hospital after shooting himself in the foot.

A Setback for the Monarchists!
by Faramarz on Tue Apr 10, 2012 06:51 PM PDTDK Jaan,
I was going to give the Monarchists another chance in the future Iran. I figured that at least they are good at horseback riding, hunting and throwing great parties! But now this disappointing news.
Back to the drawing board I guess.
Maybe a military coup is the way to go!
