I read this book little over a year ago, The author entered Iran on foot with a back pack!
Unlike what you've seen on TV Jamie didn't have to report his intentions to anyone in order to obtain a visa, submit his daily diary to anyone and didn't have to follow the path set by the "Ershad" ministry for people like Rick Steves or other TV show producers So.....he sat down, mingled with, talked and listened to PEOPLE in Iran!
Such an easy to read, heartwarming and unbiased book that I highly recommend everyone whose heart is in the Motherland to read.
Just to tell you how true and unbiased this author and his book is, he's banned from re-entry to Iran! Go figure!
Praises for this book,
"Jamie Maslie's book is Iran from ground up, and a total surprise to those who only know the media version of that country. A fascinating likeness of a complicated people." Anthony Brandt, editor of National Geographic
" A timely and valuable book by a young Westerner who decided to see Iran for himself. His experiences reveal the lies that mainstream media are telling us about the country." Richard Kendrick, author of Deja Vu

by Cost-of-Progress on Thu Jan 27, 2011 05:53 AM PSTI am a bit behind as I am just now reading "The Soul of Iran" by Afhin Molavi which I find to be a fascinating book. Probably (I can only imagine) similar in content although one author is Irnaian and the other a Westerner. I will put this book on the list.

Thanks for sharing Majid
by Jeesh Daram on Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:48 PM PSTIt is good to hear some positive news about Iran, even though it is about porn, but still it is better than some other travelogues on Iran that always show a few minutes of self-flagellation (sineh zanee), smiling cooked lamb's head in a murky steaming liquid and butchering of a goat on the sidewalk, or men crying and shedding tears like babies over simple and trivial events in history, such as one Arab cutting another Arab's head and other sagas of crimes and murders fit for Halloween.
This is the way to travel anyway and if you think of it, world is so large that there is really no need to return to a country once you have seen it, unless it's your motherland. Thanks
