Iran has NOT been granted a seat on the UN women board....but Saudi Arabia has; even though Shirin Ebadi has said that Saudi Arabia's abuse of women is worse than Iran's. So, what has this taught us? The decisions made by the United Nations are based on pressures and politics and not on the logic of human rights.

They are playing politics with an issue that is human rights based. Yes, we care for Iran first but this will not have the effect it could have had the UN been more honest in their election process.

Wonder which one is worse: being stoned to death ( Islamic Republic) or being burned alive ( Saudi Arabia)?
Yes, Ms. Yazdi, it all depends on the balance of forces: if a community is well organized and has a healthy alliance with like-mided individuals, organizations and net-works, practically nothing is impossible!

by G. Rahmanian on Wed Nov 10, 2010 04:26 PM PSTAs Iranians please let's focus on the harsher realities of life for women in Iran. For the last three decades the murderous regime in Tehran has used other issues such as liberating Jerusalem to consolidate its grip on power and perpetuate its oppressive existence!!! This is a great victory for Iranian women.Let's celebrate this victory and not spoil it by distracting our attention fromthe problems at hand!
You are too harsh on Saudis
by divaneh on Wed Nov 10, 2010 03:13 PM PSTI think they deserve it because they have made good progress in improving on women rights in their country. For example, women may not be able to drive in Saudi Arabia, but they are now allowed to sit in the car as passengers and it is no longer mandatory to put them in the boot.
