If I was a man...

If I was a man...

I would be completely in Love with Sepideh Rais-saadaat! This is one of my many thoughts of Today! (the other ones would not be interesting to the IC readers, trust me).

I am hardly the envious type. Except for wishing I had at least some of Sepideh's attributes. Which would that be? I ask myself... probably some of her genetically coded temperamental styles. Seemingly perfect focus with studies of and sensitivity to sound, easy adaptability to new environment, persistence with training and honest approach toward her artistic vision - only softened by intense Love for her craft.

Within the last two weeks I have received her clips from at least a dozen friends. Each time I listen to her, my respect for her is elevated and my interest in her craft intensified.

Just listen to her, look at her: //iranian.com/main/music-article/2010/oct/sepideh-raissadat-bbc-persian-az-nazdik-program

A brilliant Angel who carries such a pure Passion for Persian music - with a rare tranquil disposition in conveying that Passion to the lovers of music, Iranian or not. Not a trace of narcissistic, attention-seeking jest or adaa. Not a bit of over-achieving neurosis. And the antique quality of her voice that soothes or provokes feelings, at any given time... Topped with the humble sweet smile, uncovered beauty and ease with who she is.

Can she ever do any Wrong?! Rhetorically speaking.

Please feel free to post your own favorite performances and thoughts of Sepideh Raissadat.

I drink this glass of cardamom infused tea to being able to listen to her and watch her on stage one day. Alone or accompanied.

Anahid Hojjati

Orang jan, thanks for video,

by Anahid Hojjati on

Orang jan, yes, there are mystries but then may be some are not mysterious but there is reason behind them. These linguistic kind of topics interest me, not that I know much but just interested.

Orang Gholikhani

Anahid Jan : Don't ask why to a language

by Orang Gholikhani on

Anahid Jan,

Languages are full of mystery and it is what make them interesting. You couldn't explain all things. As you may know in French we have Feminin/Masculin (Mozakar/Moanas) and there is no rule helping you knowing why a word is Male or Female! Even after 30 years I've still some doubtes.

That's said, I remeber very well how I learn this exception rule in English when I studied English in Iran. It was with the song of a fiddler on the roof : If I were a rich man, doobi doobi dooo :-)

Anahid Hojjati

Exactly why they did come up with "If I were"

by Anahid Hojjati on

Now I am curious why those setting rules of language decided to say "If I were"? what was wrong with "If I was", the "If" already shows it is conditional, do people need the were too?

Vallaa Corrections are Great!

by Monda on

Solo jan, Thanks for sticking up for me here! :o)

Vallaa Corrections are Great! I find them heartwarming... in fact any attempt towards human bonding truly warms my heart - if the Intension is genuine.

By the way, what do you think about Raissadat, Solo jan? I'm playing her right now while things are boiling (outside of me that is :)

Flying Solo

Corrections

by Flying Solo on

Where is Literary Critic when you need him? :)

In the 4:11 post where Guive advises Monda on the correct use of the subjunctive, there are at least 5 grammar mistakes and one incorrect use of the word 'albeit'.

If one feels compelled to correct another's grammar, the least one ought to do is to set an example by abstaining from sloppy diction.

: )) i'm Cool!

Thanks Faramarz! no worries, man be in raahati az roo nemiram : ))

Nanny Nanny Boo Boo!

by Faramarz on

"Nanny nanny boo boo

Monda is in trouble!

Nanny nanny boo boo

Gonna get a timeout!"

Don't worry Monda.

Your blogs and coments are as popular as ever even if you write them in Hyroglifics (Khat e Meekhi!)

didani

That antique quality in her voice ....

by didani on

As though you are listening to Ghamar without the khesh khesh of her old recordings, excellent taste musically but cardamom tea Monda jan?! what is wrong with the pure taste of a depsh chai, no cardamom, no earlgray, just pure chai!

Monda

Please read cultural inappropriateness

by Monda on

Not culture. Sorry.

Monda

merci ke havamo dari Souri :o)

by Monda on

Guive Mirfenderski is one of my favorites here as well, since I started my addiction in 2004 or 2005. He has a very valid point. And I truly appreciate his intention to help me learn to write more correctly.

Happy Thanksgiving to you too my dear! I'm doing pumpkin ravioli, how about you? Gotto run, my dog got skunked again!

Monda

No offense taken, I love learning!

by Monda on

It is an honor to have you read even my blog title - I assure you, Mr. Mirfendereski, I was not being facetious.

Honestly however, I don't feel gratitude about your correction. Because: 1) I wanted my friends here to connect to the Iranian-ness of me and my wish. 2) Once in awhile I write blogs for the fun of it. Without editing (Lord kick me hard) and without censoring for culture, age or gender inappropriateness of those blogs. Why do I make a fool of myself by doing that? Simply because I need a break from the severity of life situations encompassing my daily life. I know, that is Not an Excuse either... But the only one I got. Here on IC, once in awhile, I enjoy being sloppy. It is my playground on rainy days.

Technical or serious writings would have very different tone and structure.

You know what, Guive? I sincerely do not know why Jahanshah features my writings on his front page! But each time he does that, I feel tickled in my core to be on the same front page as scholars and artists, in your caliber.

Best to you as always,

Monda

Souri

dear Guive

by Souri on

Happy Thanks Giving's!

shoma rast migin, in Monda aslan nazm o tartib ro roayat nemikoneh:)

baba Monda, chand dafeh behet goftam in subjunctive o yadet nareh?

BTW, dear Guive, as you already know I'm a fan of you since the first days of your blogging here. Also our fathers are ham-shahri too !

So next time I come to Boston, I really wish to be able to meet you.

Monda jon: Happy Thanks Giving's my beautiful friend :)

Guive Mirfendereski

subjunctive

by Guive Mirfendereski on

Dear Monda - please do not take offense. If I were you, I would be grateful for the correction, albeit it was done in a public way. The Persian being your dominant language is no excuse to ignore the rules of the grammar in the language that you actually communicate in. If you did not know the rule, then maybe you will now. And if you knew it and were sloppy, well, then it is excusable. I learn a new thing everyday and am grateful to the person who pointed out to me. Best regards, Guive

Monda

Mr. Mirfendereski

by Monda on

My dominant language is Persian and I tend to write here, as I think. So, I preferred to use the exact translation. We don't have subjunctive in Persian, do we? (agar mard boodam)

I appreciate you reading the title of my blog.

Guive Mirfendereski

if i "was" a man

Please - if I were a man - the subjenctive, please!

Bachehaa joon

by Monda on

Nazy joon, I will definitely stay tuned!

Mehrban jaan, the clip you shared is the very first one I heard of Raissadat. Thank you for posting it.

Faramarz, che behtar ke davaamoon nemisheh : ) Please share some of Your favorite adjectives, in a blog. I'll be reading for sure.

Anonymous, zir derakht, baalaaye derakht, baa maast, bee maast... bloggesh kon.  Glad you enjoy her talent as well.

Anonymouse

BTW I love setar and she is very very good! Enchanting.

If spoon feeding mast-o-khiar 2 much 2 ask any catering will do!

by Anonymouse on

Men like to be positioned this way and catered, indoors or outdoors!  I prefer mast-o-khiar under a tree shade prefrereably in Darband next to the water stream, after having some kabob, jeegar and grilled tomatoes!

Everything is sacred

Faramarz

Monda

by Faramarz on

She is a great musician with a nice voice.

However, staying with your wish, "If I was a man..", adjectives such as calm, humble and heavenly are rarely used by a man to describe his love interest! I can think of many other attributes. Also, being spoon-fed under a tree is not one of them!

I can see that you (as a man), Anonymouse and I will not be competing with each other for the same woman's attention!

I did not know her before your blog.  Thanks.  Her voice is heavenly.

Anonymouse

Monda jaan if u were a man u'd knew we prefer spoon feeding too!

by Anonymouse on

Nothing beats laying down under a tree shade and have a woman play music and during her breaks spoon feed you some mast-o-khiar!  Just kidding!

Everything is sacred

Nazy Kaviani

Excellent artist, very nice human being

by Nazy Kaviani on

Monda Jan,

She is not only a disciplined and fabulous artist, doing some of the most difficult and almost extinct radifs and maghams of Iranian music, she is also a very humble human being. I have had the pleasure of talking to her several times, and found her an extremely warm and humble. Hopefully she will come to perform in the Bay Area soon! We should stay tuned!

Bavafa

I was also very impressed with her

by Bavafa on

Not only in her artistic talent but also in her calm and humble demeanor.

Enjoy her music very much and wish her the best.
