From ABC News in our studio in Los Angeles
This is “The Shirin Ebadi Crisis-Nobel Peace Prize Medal Held Hostage: 2009”
Good evening. This is Ted Koppel speaking from our studio in Los Angeles. This is day 4 of what began as an order from State Prosecutor of Iran, authorizing several radical thugs to raid Shirin Ebadi’s personal bank account, her pension fund, her husband's personal bank account, his pension allowance, and a safety deposit box belonging to her husband containing her Nobel Peace Prize medal, Legion of Honor, and other prizes. These items were then taken hostage, and a ransom amount of over $400,000 was demanded by the hostage takers. So far Shirin Ebadi has refused to pay the ransom amount, indicating that the demand by the hostage takers is illegal, but the hostage takers are saying “ma legal megal seramoon nemesheh (meaning they don't care about legality). Either you pay up or we are going to shoot Mr. Nobel.” It appears that at a later time the hostage takers decided to melt down "Mr. Nobel" instead of shooting him.
We are trying to connect to Peter Jennings in Tehran now.
- Peter, are you there?
- Yes Ted. I’m here.
- How is the situation down there?
- Well Ted, I had an opportunity to see "Mr. Nobel" this morning. He looked yellow.
- How are the hostage takers treating him?
- They appeared to be fighting over how to melt him down.
- Have you talked to any of them, Peter?
- Yes, I had an opportunity to talk to one Mr. Javad Seyyad Ali Akbar Rezvani Fard’e Asel.
- Please Peter, tell us what happened.
- He wants money. Lots of it. He wants Shirin Ebabi to shut up and pay up otherwise they are going to melt down "Mr. Nobel" and sell him as scrap gold in Tehran Gold Bazaar.
- But Peter, don’t they know the Medal, as it is, is worth hundreds of thousand dollars?
- They don’t care Ted. They see the medal as another Western conspiracy to Koppel; I mean to topple the Iranian government.
- And how are you coping with all of this?
- It’s been very hard on me Ted. I’ve been smoking a lot of cigarettes to calm down my nerves.
- Okay Peter. Be careful out there and ease up on those cigarettes. One day they could kill you.
We are now on standby to talk to Mrs. Shirin Ebadi, through a translator, who is hiding somewhere in the West.
- Yes, Mrs. Ebadi, can you hear me.
- aareh baba mishnavam.
- How do you feel about all this?
- vallah chi begam! khob khayli maskharast. ehsaas mikonam daran behem khayli feshar miyaran.
- And how is your husband doing?
- khob bichareh khayli kotak khodeh, vali hanooz aeteraf nekadeh.
- What do you mean he hasn’t confessed yet?
- mikhan aeteraf koneh keh man baa englisiha hamkari daram.
- Doesn’t the Iranian government collaborate with the British?
- nah baba! ghablan baa eglisiha khayli khoob boodan vali haala bishtar ba roos’ha haal mikonand.
- What are your plans now, Mrs. Ebadi?
- vallah mikham bargardam Iran. enjaa khosh nemigzareh. kesi beh adam fohsh nemideh. kesi behem too sari nemizeneh. haalam berayeh too sari khayli tang shodeh.
- What about the ransom money, are you going to pay?
- nah baba! ki pool daareh. hooghoogh bazneshastegimoon roo ham keh gereftan, nemidoonim chi kar konim.
- Well, Mrs. Ebadi, please take care of yourself and your husband. We’ll pray for you.
There you have it folks. This is day 4 of Shirin Ebadi’s Nobel Peace Prize medal held hostage. We promise to bring you the latest news every night as long as this crisis continues, then after that we’ll continue to broadcast this program for another ten years.
Good night,

by yolanda on Mon Nov 30, 2009 12:41 PM PSTHi Anahid,
I always read your blogs except the Farsi ones. :O) I remember the Iranian conjoined twins. The whole world was pulling for them, but they died in anesthesia......I remember that whole bunch people cried in Iran....it was heart-breaking......
I believe that IRI will be a little kinder to Ebadi 'cause this incident made headlines around the world....it makes IRI look pretty bad!
thanks,
Hi MPD,
Thank you for your blog and unique presentation of the current event. It is very effective!

Dear Yolanda,thanks for your comment,
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:06 AM PSTDear Yolanda, I don't want to divert readers' minds from this issue of Shirin Ebadi's Nobel prize being taken hostage with my twin stories. But I believe you will like my next blog. Also I wish Laleh and Ladan Bijani were alive today. I have a feeling that they would be active in Green movement.

by yolanda on Mon Nov 30, 2009 11:10 AM PSTDear Anahid,
You said that you and your sister look alike......I have a feeling you and her are identical twins.....it is so cute. I think it is so neat if 2 people look alike......
Remember the Bush Twins? They are fraternal 'cause they have different hair colors: one blond and one dark brown.....they don't look alike at all, one twin looks like Bush, the other looks like the 1st lady, Laura Bush.
I look forward to your next blog!
Take care!

"Cactus in the Desert"
I was going to write in my previous comment not to ask this..
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Nov 30, 2009 10:08 AM PSTDear Yolanda, I don't know if we are identical or fraternal. As kids, we looked a lot like each other and got almost same grades, but at birth, there were two placentas. If anyone reads this who is good in Biology, they can let me know if twins with two placentas can be identical.

by yolanda on Mon Nov 30, 2009 08:45 AM PSTHi Anahid,
Is your sister the identical twin or fraternal twin? I don't have a twin sister, I am very envious! :O)
take care!

Javadagha, Stop copy-and-pasting your stupid comment
by acopier101 on Mon Nov 30, 2009 04:20 AM PSTTry to change a couple of words at least.
Some people, especially
by Javadagha on Sun Nov 29, 2009 11:27 PM PSTSome people, especially Eye-ranians are confused. Who gave this news to the media (hint: the US media)? How do you know this is true? Because Yahoo news and few other sources said so? If you wish to criticize IRI there are plenty of issues to talk about, but please do not use a statement from a person who is ambitious and wants to be Nelson Mandela or Gandhi without having their credentials.
What will IRI gain by seizing the prize? Now, what will Mrs. Ebadi gain from saying that they took her award(s)? Hear both sides talk, then discuss who is telling the truth. On a similar issue, Mrs. Ebadi mentioned that when she returned to Iran (with her award about six years ago) millions of people came to airport to welcome her (this is her own statement). Okay, let's accept her statement. I am surprised why these millions of people are not defending her? Where was Mrs. Ebadi before June 12 election? (hint: not Iran) Duh!! The countries that broadcasted her statement about the awards missing are those that are spreading other lies (hint: VOA) Many Eye-ranians lied to remain in the Western countries. There should be check and balances for freedom of speech.
Update #1
by Mola Nasredeen on Sat Nov 28, 2009 02:23 PM PSTIranian auhtorities blew up the Ebady's Noble Peace Medal using imported dynamite from Norway.

Maybe if IRI getsup set, they will confiscate my "Karnamehs"
by Anahid Hojjati on Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:51 PM PSTNow I am worried. If I write too much political poetry against IRI, will they confiscate my "Karnamehs"? Actually I just remembered, they already did that once. In 1360, when my twin and I graduated from high school, IRI croonies in "Aamozesh va Parvaresh" kept our Karnamehs for a while. Go figure.
Learned my lesson

by yolanda on Sat Nov 28, 2009 08:13 AM PSTHey! MPD,
It is very clever of you to incorporate hostage-taking, Peter Jennings' smoking, and Ted Koppel/topple into your story. It is very savvy to personify Nobel Prize into Mr. Nobel.....
It cracked me up when I read Mr. Nobel looks yellow! LOL!
