Hi Omid,

I have never bought a raw whole chicken, so not very familiar with the pricing for whole chicken. I buy chicken breast once a while, it is between $2.99 to $3.99 a pound!

Rotisserie Chicken at Costco

A 3 lb. rotisserie chicken at Costco goes for $4.99 or 10,000 Toman.

For frugal shoppers in the US, you can buy whole chickens at $0.99/lb, much cheaper than in Iran.

Whole chicken, $1.69 per pound at the local supermarket

by Omid Hast on

I checked my math again.

2,000 Toman = $1

1 kg chicken = 90,000 Toman = $4.50 per kg of whole chicken

1 kg = 2.2 lbs

$4.50/2.2 lbs = $2 per pound of whole chicken

The whole chicken is selling at $1.69 per pound at the local supermarket here in the USA.  So over there in Iran, at one-tenth of income, the free market price of chicken is about 20% more than here.  That's amazing!

So, the fat chick can make more money! LOL!

$2.00 a pound must be considered exorbitant in Iran, but it is quite cheap here!

I hope the chicken crisis will not worsen, I hate to see people mal-nourished!

Thank you for sharing!
