There are people around here,
who constantly negate me
I salute them, they’re better,
Than the ones who hate me!
* * *
There are people around here,
-even when they have bare feet-
I could put ‘me’ in their shoes
To see the world, they could see it
* * *
There are people around here,
who speak the words of stutter
Sing the songs of silence,
Reside in land of never
* * *
There are people around here,
Ever since you get the chance
You can tell them at the end:
There is no point for romance

by persian westender on Fri Jun 06, 2008 04:00 PM PDTNatalia: thanks for remainig silent and staying beside me, although my situation is not that painful! but the excerpt was powerfull. Thanks
Anonymouse: I don't insist. It's your choice. but you started to read poetry, who knows you may end up writing "Manzoomeh" with jj's tricks!
carpe diem!
Nah, not for me
by Anonymouse on Fri Jun 06, 2008 05:31 AM PDTI never actually liked poetry. I always shunned it and was always a novel guy. Then I read few poems in this website and now don't shun away and just read them. It is all JJ's fault, otherwise I would have gone to my grave not liking poetry and they had to take Souvashoun out of my dead cold hand!
Guys........
by Natalia Alvarado-Alvarez on Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:00 AM PDTI was pondering your words. The truth of the matter is that everyone needs to do what they feel is best for them.
I wish you the best gentlemen. Buena Suerte! :o)
"When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares."

Anonymous, I can relate to
by persian westender on Thu Jun 05, 2008 10:52 PM PDTAnonymous, I can relate to you. I remember a poem from Mayakovsky (I had read a persian translation of it long time ago) with this phrase "...va ghayeghe eshgh bar sakhreie zendegie roozmarreh darham shakast;;". a lame translation would be : " ..and the ship of romance broke over the rocks of daily life" In persian literature there are plenty of poems to address fragility of the romance. The one to point at: "ke eshgh asan nemood avval.... vali oftad moshkelha" the song from Hayedeh was a very good example of it. Refereshing for me too.
Life of romance is short. when it comes to the end, it's heartbreaking and you crave for 'those days'. we become so involved in routines of daily life and quickly forget how valuable are these affairs. obviously nobody expect romance last forever. but sometimes life becomes so boring that you need something to grasp to motivate you to go on and there is nothing out there...nothing left
I recommend you to elaborate and publish your poem. it is beautiful (not because my poem has inspired you!). I am a beginner myself. it was perhaps my fifth or sixth english poem that I 've ever wrote and your english definitely is better than mine. the poems that I write sometimes are not from my direct experiences of life, but I can put myself in some situations and imagine.there's no magic in it and everyone is capable of it.
but I agree on: there is romance in saying nothing....
lets not talk romance!
Anonymouse...
by Natalia Alvarado-Alvarez on Fri Jun 06, 2008 12:35 AM PDTInteresting poem. Thank you for sharing. Sounds to me like you've been there, done that and moved on. :o)
Very good song recommendation as well. Sorry, to read that she had such a tragic ending.
Sweet Love
I cannot help it. I am a hope less romantic. :o) We are what we are.

by Anonymouse on Thu Jun 05, 2008 09:41 AM PDTOne of our most beloved singers Hayedeh had a famous song. She actually died back in early 80s due to a drug overdose. Sad sad story, we loved her and we'll always love her. She had THE voice.
Anyway, she had a song, forgot the actual name, about ashena-yee (meeting someone as in a romantic way). The song in farsi said:
Aval-e ashena-yee-moon harfha che shaer-a-neh bood. Hawlaw chi hastam vas-e tow? Haw-law chi hastam vas-e tow? yek jawm-e kha-lee az sharab. Shekasta-knee mesl-e hobab.
Translation (This can be a joke of it's own about translating poems and slanks :-) but you'll get the idea, those who know it should try to sing it with the same rhytm ;-)
In the beginning the talks very so romantic and loving. Now what am I to you? Now what am I to you? A wine bottle empty of wine. Breakable like a bubble.
Do you get the picture now?! Romance is good in the beginning but later you need more. Romance will either die or it'll need maintenance, otherwise there is no point.
I was actually considering writing a poem (not a poem, I can't write poems) to followup with this poem. But I gave it up. Actually I just looked and I had not deleted it. I know it is crap, but this is as good a time and as good of place as any to post it:
This is not a poem. I am just frustrated, I think.
Don’t compare it to a poem.
This was inspired by a poem The People Around by Persian Westender.
Have you ever felt it is better not to say anything at all?
Have you failed in this respect and tried, tried and tried again?
You have huh? Many times you say? Know many people who do it, you say?
But I want to know if there is anything else that can be said?
Anything else that can be done?
If there is anything wrong with it?
Do we gain anything by keeping silent? Peace and quiet you say?
I remember someone saying I’m surrounded by idiots. I remember a TV ad about working in an office with monkeys.
No peace and quiet there!
I remember reading a Mullah’s sermon at Friday’s prayer about romance. Mostly about patience and crap like that. Nothing about romance.
Women say being quiet is bad. They ask why don’t you talk about your "feelings"?
Trick question!
But there is romance in saying nothing at all. There is hope. Hope they’ll wake up and figure it out for themselves. Hope you don’t have to remain silent for ever.
Quel dommage!
by Natalia Alvarado-Alvarez on Thu Jun 05, 2008 09:09 AM PDTNo romance?! Say it isn't so. Romance makes the world go around. It is the joie de vie! :o)
Have you ever been in love by Celine Dion

by Anonymouse on Mon May 05, 2008 09:28 AM PDTWhat about people who negate me and are in haparoot themselves?! Some times -- perhaps many times -- it is just better to just not saying anything at all. That's when I think as you say "There is no point for romance". The question may be does that person is ever going to have romance? Romance being long term not just sex.
Good poem. Fresh.
